I knew this was true but you STILL can't use this for anything, cause you can't add endless nines to the end of the line. I guess this is the third time I see this topic.. :)

Oh and never ever belive anything written on wikipedia :D

Win for Hunter, wikipedia cannot be trusted on this.

Also: the first site is signed with Sam Hughes?! That was an old minister of defence in Canada, and a pretty well known musician. Not a maths expert, and certainly not the maker of that site.

Also, the main page has a link to a simpsons fansite, amongst other sites that have nothing to do with science.

Sure it is. But other than that, I think all of us heard that many times with the same enthusiasm..

Hey, I already had a thread like this!
The result was that 0.9999 is followed by an infinite amount of 9's.
That's extremely, extremely, EXTREMELY, close to one.
    So we just say "one".

0.999... is extremely close to 1 in the same way that 2/2 is extremely close to 1. They are actually 100% absolutely equivalent.

For anyone who has some objection because it doesn't "feel right" or some other subjective explanation against the equivalence, mathematics is not subjective or based on gut feelings. It is what it is.
