Yes dear comrades of the Starcraft2forum.org community. I bought this official Expansion Set of one of the best video games ever, I call Starcraft, 10 years ago already !! Hum. It was both quick and slow all this time from now. It was on March 1999. OMG ! I remember all those days I have waited for this game. But let's start with the original game, Starcraft. I bought it in November 1998. I first played this game on the official demo, burned inside a CD-ROM from a French video games magazine (Joystick.fr) which tested the game for us. I didn't understand how to play this game first. My brother played with it. I listened to the voices, the music, those units moving, shooting and dying. Well I was interested in this game. Until the moment I realized I felt in love with this game. Trully ! Love ! I didn't succeed in sleeping. I was anly thinking about those units jumping inside my head. I just talked about this game to anybody. I had just "Starcraft" on my tong. The wizard of Blizzard succeeded with me. The evening after the day I played to the demo I told my brother to give me money to buy this game. He didn't hesitate one second to give it to me. I RAN to the shop at the city center to buy the game. It was dark and cold out there at that moment. Once bought I immediately ran away home to set it up on the family computer (a 100 MHZ processor with 3.2 GO hard disk) I played to this game so many time, so many hours, so many days, so many weeks, so many months .... and so many years ! I became a big fanatic of this game ! I felt in love with the musics too. And for Brood War ? There has been an unofficial expansion for Starcraft, created by Blizzard. No, I never played to it. In the magazine it was said that it was to make us patient before the release of Brood War. I remember each friday, during the school hours I went to a shop to see the released games. I always asked a seller if the game will be released and he answered not yet. And at the beginning of March 1999 the game was released ! Finally !! BUT .... it was the english version. The official version. I have Starcraft in French. I asked the seller when the French version will be sold and he answered that it will be for soon. With the agreement of the seller I bought the original version and told him that once the French version will come I will give the original game back and take the French version. At home I set the original version up. And ONE THING THAT YOU DON'T KNOW : when you set another language up on your computer Blizzard puts a message like "Starcraft : Brood War will be set up on a version of Starcraft that has another language. The gameplay will not be affected. Are you sure you want to set up the game ? YES/NO" Result : The cinematics are in English, but the units talk in French (except Duran and Artanis). But when there are dialogues in the game they talk in English of course. 2 weeks after I bought this game I bought the French version. I compared to the original version. Well I prefer the original version. It is more alive.
All the french units sounds so very dumb down. (I'm first langage french) Long live the english version. Bought Starcraft 1 week after it came out thinking that Warcraft 2 could not be overthrown. Got Brood War the day it came out. 10 years ago I was 15.... been a while.
Ahhh Yes I remember when Broodwar was released. I had told my brother that the game was going to be dumb but boy was I the fool. As soon as he brought that game home I was the first one playing. When I started the Protoss campaign and you have to lead Felix to the base I was amazed. The game was unique and like nothing that I have ever played before. I spent that whole first day playing the game, I got 15% through the Protoss campaign that day. Now i'm 15 and I have many memories of fun times, and games.
During that first paragraph I couldn't decide if you wanted t play the game or buy it a drink. Either way it is a very fun game, its kind of funny that SC is the game that brought me into PC gaming, even if at the time I was impatient and thought it was a hard game to play.
When i first started i cheated through all the campaigns just to get the full story. Then I played skirmishes until I finally got internet to play online.
It's not to bad to cheat. I still cheat with the protoss; I like to do things in order but I suck with the protoss so I cheat away.
