11 more years? 2012 is only 3-4 years away. I think you need to learn Maths again kurai.

    Anyways, back on topic!

Those are going to have to be some strong solar storms and buildup to break through the earth's magnetic field enough to damage electronics to that extent.

The main problem with power and comunications knocked out is that the majority of the population needs these things to survive. Without power, the human super-structure(comunication, trade, transport, etc) collapses, resulting in the posibility that the majority of the population could starve.

Here's an example I found a while ago but dont remember from where: Great Britain currently holds about 60million people. However, without the human super-structure, it has the resource capacity to hold only 10 million. Thus, if it is knocked out for extented periods of time(months - years), the majority wont have the resources to survive and possibly die.

If something like this is to happen, history shows that people will tend to rise up against the governments they feel is refusing to help them. So, in a worse case scenario, a world-wide knockout of the human structure would for a period of time would cause a huge toll on the human population's numbers and cause some places to go into anarchy.

Well ofc it will have to be.

Can you imagine if things go down? What would you do?

Places going into anarchy is an understatement.

Canned foods yes, firewood no. In such times, cutting it yourself might give you the exercise to help you survive even longer. After a while anyway.

That was kinda spammy Seradin. I was being serious.

I...I...I don't understand what this article is about... Magnetic poles shifting and aligning just isn't my thing. Someone explain to me what is happening besides saying Byè-byé to our electronic stuff and human population in 2012.

Bye bye to electronics is really 'nuff said. If that happens, the world as we know it will end. Isn't that enough happening?

The world itself won't end, people see that the world as we know it ending as the human race coming to an end, this isn't the case. Humans will just have to find other ways to go on.

Well, you have different view of it. IMO end humans is (for us) end of the world alltogether. The world as we know is the state we are used to and live in. There is progress and thus change, but it happens over time so we have time to adapt to them. Think of it as if for example medieval was a completely different world for us. No electricy, cars, lights, computers, internet etc. It's so different it's like another world

Yes, but humanity doesn't die out cause of it. It is a different world, but the race as a whole will probably benefit from such a thing happening, not at first, but eventually.

That's what I meant, it'll be different world.
Benefit? Maybe, but in many years and only if we actually learn something from it. How likely is that, really?

Humanity will eventually learn from it. There is no if, it will happen, if only just a little bit of knowledge is garnered from it, humanity will benefit.
