just a fun thread i thought up, i post some groups of people here, and you say if they can become a president the options are 1. yes, it is possible for them to become president now 2. no, they would never reach the party top and will not be voted on at this moment 3. No, they wouldnt get the votes to be president at this moment 4. no, they wouldnt be able to reach the party top at this moment 5. NEVARz!!!11!eleven! -a female president -a native-american president -a gay president -an asian president -a punk president -a non-christian president -a third party president -a latino president -a lame president(lame as in being in a weelchair)
How about a goth or an emo president? Fits in with the crisis prety good. I think that all of them have a chance, except for the lame and the non-Christian ones. Iirc there was once a lame candidate, but he retreated when they invented tv. People would see him as weak, he thought. And a non-Cristian has just as much chance as Bin Laden to become the next pope.
A non-Christian President for another mentality in the US government. Is it possible ? Or will the non-Christian president be shot at the second he will be declared victorious to the Presidency, once the campaign is over.
FDR? He may not have started the presidency in a wheelchair, but he was reelected while in one. Both of these have probably occurred already. Just because a president says he is a straight Christian doesn't mean he is one.
As far as non-Christian, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jefferson#Presidency Not exactly a devout Christian president. While it is possible that there have been gay presidents, it is hard to say. An openly non-Christian or gay candidate probably wouldn't do very well today, though. I can't predict what others would vote for regarding those options, but I wouldn't have any problem voting for a candidate with any of those qualities as long as I agreed more with that candidate's position than any of the others.
*sigh* Maybe ijfdrie should have posted that they also need to honestly come out for what they are... -not that you can hide most of those things, though-
-a female president (Sarah Palin 2012) -a native-american president (never) -a gay president (never) -an asian president (never) -a punk president (never) -a non-christian president (soon) -a third party president (never) -a latino president (never) -a lame president(lame as in being in a weelchair) (never)
-a female president, probably some trouble with oler males, but i think its possible, except for Sarah Palin, seriously, i usually dont bash politicians on their character instead of their views, but Sarah Palin was just so friggin dumb/poorly educated, she though Africa was a friggin country. Then again, in America anything is possible - a native-american president, dont see why not -a gay president , not at this moment, though maybe in my lfietime -an asian president, dont see why not -a punk president, hehe, i think punks will be all but gone at the time they'd actually get votes -a non-christian president, not within my lifetime, if there are still debates about whether or not to make every child in elementary school pray every morning, a non-christian president doesnt stand a chance -a third party president give it a couple of hundred years and it might -a latino president , dont see why not -a lame president(lame as in being in a weelchair), depends on how he got the weelchair, if he got it in a war and is republican he could probably win
I second that last bit. Just look at the last elections. The only thing those republicans could bash Obama with, was that he never was in any war. A crippeled person just might have a bit more charisma. Especially compared to J -I had my face lifted- Mcain. @ Sara Palin 2012: Buhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahaha!
Unless the political system changes, there will probably never be a president from a third party (though a third party might replace a mianstream party, it has happened before [both of the current parties being replacemen ts]) As for the others, it is very possible and fairly likley. It would happen MUCH faster if there was a larger list of candidates (IE if third parties had a chance)
Why not? Lots of people have other beliefs. I am not a big fan of this sort of stuff in politics, but it seems more fair that way.
Well said Aurora ! Why shouldn't America vote for a non-Christian President ? Normally the religion should be private. Even a non believer could be elected. And i think especially in the US religion should be far away from politics cause that gives way for interpretations of Holy Books, etc .... for the welfare of the president, not for the citizens. Don't call me a utopist
