currently in amsterdam, the minister is trying to shut down most of the redlight district (de wallen) with a new law that gets rid of the need for a trial, this is all under the cover by the fact that some parts of the district are bought with criminal money. and than he funds starting tailorers in the area, what i am cracked up about is that our money is used to shut down most of the most tourist attracting area(rofl) in amsterdam, and than is used to put down tailorers. tbere is also the fact that the owners have no legal way of protecting themselves against the ministry, do you agree that he should be stopped
Wait, so you give away money so that they can shut down tourist attractions (lose money) and put down tailorers (lose money) ? No wait, not like that. Anyway. I agree, it's insane. Better yet, I have to put up with Polish government and that's still insane to me
I live in Holland and I think this should have been done years ago. I find the stuff that is going on in the red light district disgusting and I have always thought that those people there should be stopped. It is ridiculous that the biggest tourist attraction of such a nice country is prostitution. The coffeeshops should stay by the way.
Better to keep it legal and regulated than illegal and not. From what I hear, since it's controlled, they're relatively clean, well fed, so on and so forth. There's nothing inherently wrong with prostitution, just immoral in the classic sense. It is, after all, the world's oldest profession.
I know what your going through. My city's mayor attacked our strip clubs, and now my city's only real income source is property tax.
Not like in the movies GM_k, that is just rubbish. But you hear a lot of people talk about Amsterdam and the things related to that city, it all depends on who you are talking about when you say "they"... It is legal, but you cannot just walk over the streets anymore and smoke where you want and when you want. They are more strict with those things lately, which is a good thing in my opinion. Just imagine a street full of high foreigners that you have to go trough to get to your home every day. That kinda sucks.
when illegal prostitutes are often the targets of violent crime since they are avoiding the police to conduct their business. By legalizing it you allow the police to provide protection to these women. Im not saying its a moral profession, just i think its less degrading to women when you dont also take away their police protection. and yes marajuana is legal in the netherlands but only in licensed coffee shops... they have really good weed there tho.
It is legal at the moment, they just want to get those people out of that area. By the way, you are permitted to have 5 grams of that stuff with you at all times, not only in coffeeshops, so if people want to give or sell it to each other, nobody is going to stop them. It happens all the time throughout the whole country, even in the playground behind my house sometimes. I really don't care about it, as long as it's not cocaine or something, because that's VERY illegal and dangerous to use. (although cocaine and prostitution seems to go together quite easily)
haha yeah I was told that smoking weed on the street is illegal or at least very socially frowned upon (like drinking beer on the street before noon in germany when there is no soccer game at 2 ).
I better think serious on this one....that area will be dangerous if this carries on actually its already dangerous however it will become even more dangerous, they could even make their own army force however against all odds O_O
I think what they did in germany was correct! They legalized the prostitutes, making laws like doctor-check to limit sexually transmitted disease, etc.
