seriously? i mean, some of these questions i thought were just a joke, but it's actually kind of scary when a significant portion of the voting population in the US actually believes:

- Sarah Palin is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama (over 50% of republicans)
- Barack Obama is a racist who hates White people (around 30%)
- openly gay men and women be allowed to teach in public schools (75% NO)
- Should sex education be taught in the public schools? (OVER 50% NO)
- Should public school students be taught that the book of Genesis in the Bible explains how God created the world? (nearly 80% YES)

ok, you know what, just read the link. towards the end, i was actually surprised that most of them supported women's rights. now i understand that the SC2forum is mostly a younger crowd, so i wonder if the younger republicans here would agree with the poll results.

It looks like this survey attracted more loons then anything else.

I have no problem with a teacher that is homosexual teaching my children, unless he continualy pushes that belief upon them .

Now For Palin, she has done a good job for Alaska, but i do not believe she is ready for the entire nation.

I dont really have any problem with sex education, as long as it actualy teaches them something useful. Like how to use protection.

Well, we teach them the theory of evolution as fact when that still has no conclusive bases, why not give them another to decide over.

 

actually, evolution does have very conclusive evidence, and has had it for decades, but that's an argument for another thread.

as for sex education... if you look at the poll, a large portion of them don't believe in contraceptives either... and about 30% consider the birth control pill (not morning-after pill) equivalent to abortion.

As for Republicans... don't get me started. I seriously pity all the conservatives in America. Even if I was to be conservative I still could never give them my vote because they are quet frankly the biggest laughing stock of rednecks and gooks in the western civilization.

 

yes while liberals and democrates are obviously the most pious and elite, no side is perfect higgs so dont even pretend that yours is.

Online polls on a single site or a single kind of site are not reliable. Mostly because sites like this attract people who want to find someone who listens to them, and only other people like them listen to their arguements, and thus the community grows.

People are sick of being denied when they claim Obama is a secret muslim, thus they seek other people who believe the same. Bonus is that they mostly talk to one another, so we don't get as much 'spam'. Negative is that they now have the power to hold bigger protests.

Hope that made sense, I am kinda tired.

 

You shot at what you think of republicans and how they are, i shot how i think of liberals and how you are acting. Not every republican is a redneck or a gook, as you say, just as every democrat is not a jackass or some one with a superiorty complex. strawman is a stereotypical false representation of your opponents views or background, to be used to make the other party look ridiculous before your own viewers.

A strawman republican is someone who keeps a gun collection under his 12 year old son's bed, puts tar and feathers on sex education teachers and says YIHAW a lot.
A strawman democrat is a stoned hippy who encourages his daughter to have plenty of illicit sex, since she can have abortions anyway, while protesting the fact that the military uses weapons in military excursions.
A strawman socialist has a thick russian accent, a heavy moustache and will encourage farmers with a whip

it's not an online poll, and thus it wasn't really self-selecting.

that's what really concerns me. they called several thousand random people by telephone, at random, across the entire united states, and just showed the results of people who consider themselves republicans.

edit: and the evolution thing: even if darwin DID renounce it, it doesn't matter. unlike religion, science doesn't rely on prophets. it uses evidence that has been built up over decades of research. Einstein renounced quantum mechanics because he didn't like the philosophical implications. doesn't stop it from being true.

 

I would hope that in the 21st century the validity of evolution wouldn't be even opened to debate and anyone who would dispute it would either win a Nobel Prize or get laughed out off a public office. Europe roughly fits that description. America seems to be lagging behind.

Edit: And this evolution thing, even though it is seemingly off-topic it actually makes my point for me. I might disagree with democrats on certain policies, but with the Republican party I don't even get the chance to get to their actual policies because they keep me busy with this 'no global warming, evolution is a hoax, U.S. is a Christian nation, everyone is a commie' gobbledygook. So while both parties might be totally off on their economic or foreign policies at least the left seems a littlebit more... 21st even 20th century-like?
Then again if I could I would work on bringing additional parties into the play. It's ridicilous that the most prominent 'democracy' in the world limits itself to two bloody parties.
