Their lifestyle doesnt seem healthy to me. Not their fault, too much people per square meter.

what do u mean lifestyle isn't too healthy? I mean every country with big cities have too many people per square inch like Japan. These people do live the longest too because of their lifestyle and diet. The only flaw notable in Korea is their political instability at times.

    It's Pho!!!

    Dac biet means "special"

so you prolly had the special version of pho which is pho but with almost everything. There is the xe lua (train) which has completely everything. Yes it is beef noodle soup and you eat it with the spicy red chili sauce and the hoison (yea plumb might be close enough) sauce. I don't really like basil but bean sprouts are alright.

yea Pho is the bomb lol. I have a t-shirt that says "What The Pho?" (Pho is pronounced with a more emphasis on the "h" than the "o" so it's like saying fuck without the "ck")

Huh, I’m glad you showed the article. It's good that someone in the government had the sense to realize that we (america) are holding our own troops hostage there. Truth be told, if north Korea attacked south Korea, the only way to stop them would be nuclear weapons (there isn't a whole lot to keep the north Koreans out). It was known to be the worst tour of duty at one time (may still be).
So let's pray that doesn't happen.

    @ FlyingTiger
ohhh you know what it is? on the menu, it's under a heading of pho, so I guess the word pho is inferred after the title of each dish. The restaurant I go to used to be called Pho Pasteur, but now it's called Le's

It's hard to convey the intricacies of pronunciation with text...I pronounce it as it would be in English: like the word "foe." Does it have an F sound at the beginning? Is the "O" pronounced like the "O" in "dog?" or "Joe?" or is it like the "U" in "duck?"

There are a multitude of dishes of pho at the place, but the one I have is the one with brisket and rare roundeye and tripe in it...I dunno if it rings a bell with you or not...but it's so cool that when they bring you the bowl of soup and noodles and beef, the roundeye is just really thinly sliced and really rare - almost raw. But then the broth cooks it all the way through by the time you add the chili sauce (which I put like a table spoon in for a bowl the size of my head, maybe Le's is just really strong) and plum sauce and basil and bean sprouts and dip your spring rolls or vegetarian summer rolls in it omg yummmm

I need to work on my chopstick skills though.

oh yeah, and just so nobody can say we are off-topic:

yea Pho means beef noodle soup. yea I've been to Pho Pasteur twice in Boston, excellent place. My mom's pho is better and she is currently teaching me how to make it too ^_^. Pho is pronounced fuck without the "ck."

I don't exactly like the chili sauce but I like the hoison sauce a lot more and I like everything in my pho. haha.

i love to just throw everything in and mix it up and eat it and ahhhhhhh

it's like a kaleidoscope of flavor inside my mouth

ok no when you say "pho" does it have an abrupt stop like you are about to drop the f-bomb then your mom walks in, or is it drawn out? so is it "fu- " or "fuhhh"

Re: South Korea - Country Profile

    ok cool

I'm really intense about pronunciation, especially if I meet someone with a foreign name. I always ask them how they would pronounce it in their language, because I figure if I just call them by their name with an American English accent, it's not really their name. It's a very small thing, requiring little effort, to learn how to pronounce someone's name correctly, and I think that people deserve to be called by their real name and not something that people say because they are too lazy and ignorant to take the time to learn about their culture or language.

However, it depends on the name. I took me a few days to learn that the "X" in my friend Xiao's name was more like a very short "S", rather than an "S-H" sound. His wife's name, however, I will never be able to pronounce. Un-possible.

Asian languages are tough for me because although I speak a few languages, the character sets of the alphabets are totally different in many cases, and the intonations and some of the sounds are not present or not as integral in the mechanics of the languages I speak. It's really like being a baby all over again. ;D

FYI - Nikzad is pronounced like Nick-zawd. Except not with an excessive emphasis on the "W." The "A" is more like the "O" in "dog"

    EDIT: Who likes bubble tea??

I think so far, I like honey milk tea the best

lychee isn't bad either, although I've only had it once or twice and don't know what the real thing tastes like

anyone ever had durian? I had a durian shake once at the Vietnamese restaurant I talked about earlier and it was ok....apparently the real fruit smells like shite; either people love it, or they hate it

Pho is the bomb, but it's evil. It's a dark scheme to hook every Korean on it on first taste so the Vietnamese can just rule over them with little effort.

In recent years I've gotten hooked on the Vietnamese seafood noodle soup. I've ditched the beef variation pretty much altogether.

D00d, the FACT that they're hard to eat just makes it that much better. Gives you a reason to chew over and over that chewy goodness. I love bubble tea. It's like a food and a drink all in one. In Ann Arbor, MI you definitely get Asian central at Bubble Island. I feel so white-washed sometimes cuz I always go for the popcorn chicken, lol.
