First tell us what races you are testing and what tactics you are testing. Then we know what questions to ask you. As we always ask the person most qualified to answer each particular question.
All and all. This isn't some thorough research for a book you're publishing. All you have to do is ask a question and I'll answer it to the best of my abilities. No need to over complicate something so simple.
Hey I have Beta too and I got it via this forum so the least I can do is answer some Qs. I have been playing Terran and Protoss in Silver Division. I've tried plenty of tactics, and if I haven't I'd love to try it. Minimal Zerg experience. Played some with Infestors though. Ask away please!
@Matte: I'm on US. DeckardLee.deckardlee, ranked high gold with a mostly win ratio at the moment. @Chax424: Tryna jack mah topix, boi?!
Ok I have a question for you DeckardLee. Since you know heaps about SC2. Do you think the average player is good enough to make it to the top end of the Gold rankings? Or do you need massive skill to make gold? And do you think you deserve to be in Gold? Do you think you thould be higher/lower? And are you happy in Gold?
Well, having no previous knowledge of SC2 but having tons of SCBW time, I find high Gold to be a little easy By that I mean that when I win, I win because the game contained situations which I understood, but when I lose I lose because it contained conditions which I didn't understand and didn't know how to counter. I bet if I had known more I would've won. But, the point is that, Battle.net matched me right where I need to be at the moment. I can't comment on how quickly it adjusted from your starting position, however, because I keep getting reset I'll probably move up soon though. Other than that, it's hard to gauge this from looking at myself because I've been doing some 1v1s with members of SCLegacy who've been in the beta for quite some time and I can usually win those. This is a hard question to answer simply based on myself because of my SCBW experience so I'll go outside of myself. If you play ICCUP regularly then you're going to have an easy time with Gold as it is now because, from quick estimations, C-/+ play on iCCUP is about equivalent to Platinum skill. That's the average Platinum, not the David Kims or the OverSkys. I'm talking the mid-to-low average layer. If you're a decent Battle.net pub stomper, you'll probably get placed in Gold (it seems everyone does) but you'll still play against mid-to-high silver depending on your performance. Battle.net seems to be very capable from what I can tell at making sure you're not getting stomped for more than a game or two. All in all, you will not be disappointed with where you're placed. Even if you're in Gold, that doesn't mean you're playing people higher or lower than you. You're pretty much evenly matched.
Thanks a whole heap. That makes me feel really good. That you're always playing people of your skill level. Even as you get better or worse at SC2. And +1 for the awesome detailed answer. And judging by what you say I think my SC playing level will get me into high silver/low gold SC2. Actually I'd be happier in a lower level just so I can enjoy SC2 more then have to fight always to keep my position .
Here's how good the ranking system is. I am currently ranked 15th in my division but sometimes I get down to 11th or 12th. At that time, Battle.net starts giving me some good Platinum players. I, of course, get stomped as I've only played roughly 25 games so then Battle.net immediately puts me back to where I should be. I get moved up to Platinum whenever I get several games in a row where I'm not challenged as much as I should be. It never seems to do it just because I win or because of my rank. It's not only fairly accurate but pretty damn responsive. -- And, as if on queue, my record just got wiped. Son of a *****. I had a nice ratio of wins to losses too. Now, I gotta go stomp some noobs to get back into gold -- Now, my account is labeled (null)(null) and can't even be logged into. It figures that when I finally got my beta key there'd be all these problems
Sounds a lot like what happened with me. I finally got placed into 1v1 Plat *Somehow....* and then this whole problem and it wiped my 1v1 stats, but kept my 2v2. Oh well, the price we pay to play a beta
In my new placement matches, I just did a bunch of stupid crap like proxies and non-sense rushes. I still made it to high Silver No sense being serous when, in 72 hours, my record has been wiped four times.
