I think I'll update this every day.

Cause it's a lot easier to update than finding a new non-meme picture and quote.

    First question:

How would you define a 'person'?

A person is a human. That's my definition.

So, you would claim that, in comparison, a brain dead human, who is hooked up to machines to merely live, is more of a person than a chimpanzee who communicates to his or her handlers through sign language, who mourns for her young, and protects his mate?

A person is an organism and nothing else.

So your average E. coli bacterium is a person, even though it doesn't have a brain, much less a sentient sense of self?

Come on people. Stop making generalizations.

A person....hmm, a person....To me a person is a human....Someone who is living....I believe that there is a wide variety of persons, so it's hard to describe a person....

Alright, Loverboy, I'll help you out.

You said there's a wide variety of 'persons.' What do they all have in common with each other?

A person is any human, brain dead or not. A person is just another word to say a human. sentient can be anything as how do we know that basic animals in the animal kingdom don't have feelings.

Hahaha, Fenix must be loving this. I know I would.

In my opinion, a person is simply any human, and the terms are interchangeable. Regardless of whether they're brain dead, handicapped, a sociopath, have never seen a glimpse of civilisation, or anything, they're still a person. Other primates, especially chimps, are not, although they can posses what we consider to be 'human' characteristics, or the characteristics of a person. That said, just because they are not 'people', it does not mean they are inferior. As 'person' merely refers to a member of the human race, being a human does not mean you are 'better' than a chimp, and, conversely, just because a chimp isn't a person, it doesn't mean it's any worse than any of us. 'Person' is just a classification, and whether you fit into that classification or not has little to do with superiority, whether that's intellectual, physical or emotional superiority, or the right to life, etc, etc.

I'm Kent Brockman, and that's My Two Cents.

c.1225, from O.Fr. persone "human being" (12c., Fr. personne), from L. persona "human being [...]
Hence, person = human. But even if I hadn't checked the etymology I would've said a person to me is the homo sapiens, and nothing else, regardless of capabilities, even if a particular human's are exceeded by a particular ape.

A person is an individual human being. It has its own feelings, thoughts and character. However, that also applies to many other animals. So I would have to say: there is no such thing as a person when it comes to humans. The word is given a meaning by people who think about it. Other then those occasions, it can mean whatever you want. Just look in this threat.

    /question

Though assuming races like Protoss, elves or other dwarves were real, wouldn't we call their members "persons" as well?
