Maybe because you can't say European to describe it. Since not everyone that is white is from Europe.

Then again, not everyone that is black is from Africa, nor is everyone that is Asian are from Asia.

So honestly, I have no clue man.

Erm, this is going to sound sucky, but most black people in America were originally brought there by our lame ancestors. I respect every person on earth, don't even look at colour. I can't understand why some people still do that.

Still, I can't shake the feeling that the word caucasian is some kind of "coloured" joke to make fun of us. I preffer being called white if such terms are used. Find it hard to understand why the term "black" is offending. It's just a colour. Then again, it's probably a history thing that goes so far back that nobody really knows. :/

I see it on the opposite spectrum.

I think it is an elitest word by old white people.

    "We're not of a colour, we're Caucasian.".

I always thought the term caucasian was another word for white or whitish color.

Yea, same here. That's just how it is here though.

I have no idea why the / non Hispanic is there though.

It's nothing like that darkone, Caucasian is as elitist or racist as African American. I used to see and hear this word all the time on applications etc when they simply ask what race you are or describing a white person. I'm very surprised none of you have ever heard it.

All it does is describe someone white or of European descendant thats all. I can't see why anyone would make such a big deal out of it. You'd have to be crazy to think otherwise.

Pancake, I have heard it used, and have used it a few times.

    Jsph, it doesn't also have

"Black/ non white" on it. For lighter skinned black ppl.

It isn't at all gosgirl and I don't understand why it would give you such a feeling. As I said eariler it's only a descriptive term such as African American or Hispanic. It is a more formal word instead of saying just white or black etc.

You know what the actual problem is? That some people care what skin colour others have. It's just not good for anything.

    @Meee
The "Arian race" was used to describe people with blond hair, blue eyes and white skine colour. Not 100% sure of the eyes, but I'm certain the hair and skin stuff are correct. Not sure if it was a Nazi-only thing, though. I mean, Hitler himself had short, black hair. (Although that doesn't say much about it, since he was also half Jewish.)

    Lol, mega off topic.

Well Northern Indians are technically Aryian and i don't think many have blonde hair blue eyes :p

I hear caucasian being used as a term all the time never really considered it racist or anything but then again Australia doesn't have much of a race issue currently....except for those damn asians! jk jk <3 you all ^^
