Custom HOTKEYS in SC2?

    Hi, looked around for a bit to see if this has come up anywhere and I cant find a mention of it.

    Is there any talk of whether they are including fully customizable hotkeys finally in SC2?

    For a game that thrives on APM and highly technical macro/micro management, you would think that letting gamers set up an ergonomic left hand key configuration would be BASIC.

    ie a no brainer.

    I used to be a pro-gamer (Descent) back in the day and we campaigned hard with Parallax to make sure that Descent 3 nothing was overlooked as far as ergonomic left hand control.

    Anybody on top of the developers on this?

    For instance (to illustrate):

    Age of Empires. Fully custom hotkeys can be mapped under the classic WSAD configuration - the one used for most pro first person shooters

    W = Last Transmission

    S = Town Hall

    A = Idle Military Unit

    D = Idle Villager

    Additionally:

    Q = Last View

    E = Create Villager

    There are more but with these few commands suddenly the game is way more controllable, APMs go way up and you are not gettting carpal tunel reaching acrost the keys with your left hand or (gasp) even taking your hand off of the mouse to grab something on the right hand of the keyboard.

    Yes there is, WC3 has it so SC2 will have it too. Not ingame but just txt file which you can copy to your computer you use.

    So yeah. Looks like it, any other comments on this?

    The best would be to learn everything by default.
    Imagine if I would to learn different hotkeys and then join some tournament somewhere. Then I'd be completely screwed.

    Or in CS 1.6 if I where to change all the skins. I would get used to them, and then when it's tournament time, I suddenly have no skills whatsoever.
    Well, maybe I wouldn't loose the skills, that's a bit over the edge, but it sure would be much more harder to play.

    But since WC3 had it I think SCII will have it too.
    Voila! Completely customizable hotkeys!

    Erm, don't know what Fenix changed in the first post, but I assume you can customize them. You could do it in Warcraft 3, as others said, so why not in Starcraft 2?

    To add to the topic: saying that learning the basic keys is needed for tournaments is a lame excuse. Most LAN tournaments require you to bring your own pc or Mac, so your configuration is already there. If you would be forced to use another computer, then you should be able to make your settings within 2 minuter anyway. I really have a hard time of finding a good reason to force people into learning standard keys.

    And Von, Team Liquid has no official Blizzard posters. Just because somebody said that an option will be in there, does not mean that you can use it to prove a point. However, he probably will be right anyways. -but still strange to quote such a thing-

    Some tournaments require you use everything default (graphics and keys) and use another computer..

    But that's for the games I know.

    And come on, it would be quite inconvenient if you participate in tournaments arranged by internet cafés. First of all you CAN'T change the keys there.
    This is because they use a special program that prevents acess to the files and such on the computer.

    Well, I never encountered that myself. But that's just me. Where did you encounter such rules then? :s

    Also, most tournaments will be played over battle.net anyway. -at least the early rounds- You can use your own computer in those cases. And I saw video footage of last years WCG, and people use their own mouses, keyboards, steering wheels etc. all the time. -yes, one of the best NFS players uses one, the Dutch guy- I find it strange that custom dpi settings -own mouse- and bringing other gear is allowed, but that cusom hotkey settings are forbidden.

    Well, in Sweden most internet cafés don't allow you to bring your own computer for tournaments.. or as I've seen, nobody has ever brought one, I don't know if you can though. Dreamhack is the only place I know of. But that place is meant for you to bring your own PC.

    In Inferno Online, lot's of tournaments are held in CS and DotA. But also WC3TFT.
    Teams like SK and fnatic play there so it's nothing small at all.

    As for SC2? I don't know, but if Inferno Online would have SC2 tournaments some time, I'm sure you wouldn't be allowed to bring your own PC.

    So it's more inconvenient for me I guess.

    Sucks to be you then. ;)
    I mostly play online. I would hate to see that this option is unavailable during tournaments. Oh well, I mostly play with the standard layouts anyway. -although some shooters have extremely crappy defaults-
