I faced him once with a lv85 hammerdin with decent gear... I got kicked in the nuts basically. But people DO solo him, so I guess its not impossible.
I have faced him a number of times, but I have been playing for years and I kinda had the aforementioned gear. If you wanna talk about tough fights then you should take a look at the Pandemonium Event. Now THAT'S hard!
there's an even harder one called Pandemonium Diablo. http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/monsters/act5-pandiablo.shtml you also have to fight uber baal, uber mephisto, uber izual, uber duriel, and lilith to get to him.
