... what the difference between a Democrat and a Republican is?

I'm pretty sure they need to get rid of the donkey and elephant, and just use a camel to represent both...

politics as a whole are disheartening... I mean seriously, look at the people that get put forward as candidates... a bigger collection of morons and sleezebags couldn't be found anywhere else in society...

    ..... I hope =/

Well, what I know is a democrat is one who believe in social and political equality. The republican, however, believes the sovereignty of the state resides in the people.

But I don't fully believe there is a perfect democracy and republic in the world anymore.

republicans are more business-orientated and foreign politics, and the democrats more in the social things, and internal politics.

i should say that today, there is almost no difference between republicans and democrats, and yet they oppose eachother on everything.

Funny story. If you go back about two hundred years, everything about them was switched. Republicans where the liberals. Heck, they even used the color blue.

I myself am a democratic libertarian.

It means they don't want people to think they're communist.

    yep! RED POWAAAA

republic means ruled by the people. that means no king and the head is chosen by the people. you can say china is a republic but its governmental structure is communist.

ok so unlike kingdom which is ruled by a king, that explains why most countries now a days are republic, cos most monarch families have been abolished (except middle-east & europe, but they don't have power anyway... hang on the middle east ones do)
