Haha, awesome. Half those stupid oil guys are going bankrupt over this. Check your favourite news site. They are all panicking over this. Over 50 billion in debt for that stupid artificial island alone.

All those European and American people who invested in this stuff... I almost feel bad for them. Almost.

Almost ? They had not to spend their money for those silly artificial islands. They should have spent theirs in other more interesting projects.

I am glad for those stupid oil guys. They were too proud of themselves. HAHA who is laughing now !

Indeed. And you know what the best part is? Every day, they would make drinking water out of sea water, and pumped it through miles of pipe to the city, millions of litres each day. And instead of giving it to people, they spray most of it on golf courses with real grass, while nobody plays on them. Ridiculous.

It would be beautiful to see Dubai turn into a ghost town, reclaimed by the desert. At least those poor workers who are trapped in the city with no rights will be released. (thousands of people are trapped in Dubai with no passport and money, but there's plenty of articles and a thread about that already)

Oh man, I never realized how much I hated that city until now, while the end is near.

You can't get past the border thingies without a passport. So without one, you're basically trapped in Dubai. Those people they hire to work there (from third world countries) get lured in there with a paid trip to Dubai, then get to work there. Once they arrive they take away your passport. They have to pay off their trip and work for years before they it back. But due to the expenses they have to make in the most expensive city in the world, they can never get out.

And if you get a fine or whatever in Dubai and you can't pay for it, they also take your passport. So I basically wouldn't go there unless you have a large amount of money and good understanding of the rules there. :/

This article has already been posted here a while ago. Really stirred things up. That's one of the reasons a started a new thread about this.

Anyway, the link. You might also want to check the related articles for more recent articles.

What Aurora wrote about those slaves is true. They come in Dubai, and their boss take their passports as long as they can't pay back their trip.
They live in bad conditions, and there are often suicides from them.

I would like to say that a Belgian businessman, who bought a Belgian company (I don't remember what about) which had its business in Belgium and Dubai, got detained there.
This man (I don't remember the name) had a company who bought another one which had a lot of debts. He didn't know the debts. So once he came in Dubai to play his relations with the Dubaiote partner this guy, the guy from Dubai knew that there were some millions of euros of loss. He accused the Belgian guy. And this Belgian didn't know what happened. Why there were so many losses, etc .... The guy from Dubai took the Belgian's passport and hadn't given it back as long as the Belgian didn't find the money.
The Belgian survived in the streets of Dubai, got helped by some relatives, worked in bars, etc ... to survive. Nothing could help him because the guy from Dubai didn't even want to understand anything. He didn't want to understand the explanations.
The Belgian had to escape the land. He met a friend who has a yacht. They traveled together to India. But he was hidden during the 14 days of the trip. There were some controls from the nautic police. Nothing. They hadn't seen him. Once in India he had to take the plane to Brussels. There was a last control of police but it wasn't for him. He said he believed that his escape was over, cause the guy from Dubai alerted the authorities.
He finally arrived to Brussels, after 1 year of nightmare without his family.
