Click on the link and see what it is, or you could go to google and click on Earth hour and it'll tell you.

    www.earthhour.org

Lots of big cities across North-America are taking part in the event... Americans in or near Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, and San Francisco will probably know about it. Same for Canadians near Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

Interestingly www.google.ca ... is all black as a reminder that we celebrate/practice Earth Hour today. There is a link to more info.

I live near Ottawa and we will be in full shut down for the hour. I happen to be going to my aunts place for my mother's birthday and we were asked to bring candles. ^_^

Many restaurants are going with it and have been advertising special candle lit dinner service and such.

It's not like they will cut off the power. People, and businesses need to voluntarily turn off the lights. I know the city will be turning off all street lights, but not traffic lights. The Parlement building, and many other points of interest around town, that are usually illuminated, will be left in the dark for the hour also.

It got a good response from the city, media, and the people. There has been lots of talk about it all week. So I expect a high level of cooperation for the event. I'll let you know how it went.

What if the city shut off its power to all house holds forcing people todo Earth Hour, that'd be horrible :D

Most security systems usually need light to operate better, plus street lights out too??? Scary lol. Anyways Televions, and etc count eh? Since it is light. Anyways thanks

    Edit:TWENTY MINS!

Well it happened for some reason I ended up assembling a new freaking treadmill for my aunt. In the freaking dark with my father and brother-in-law using a half dead flashlight and my iPhone as our only light source. We started earlier but didn't finish before lights out. >_< Hilarity insued.

Ho wabout instead of just turning out your light as a symbolic measure you actually do something to help.

This whole Earth hour crap is nothing more tha people turning off their lights to say "Oh look I am doing something or the environment. I care see. good for me" and once its over everyone goes back to their lives ignoring the environment and eaving the lights burning all night every night till next week.

What is the point in that?
    to this pointless gesture

I agree with BoP here. Even if whole world took part in it it's still pretty much pointless. Sure, during this hour the world would save [insert some huge number here] energy, but is it really that much in a long term? It's just one hour in a year, it's nothing.
Then people who participate think they did something great. Hey I turned off my lights during EH, I care for my enviorement *throws garbage on the street*
