In Brood War campaign: Queen of Blades, part 7, Kerrigan attempted to kidnap Raszagal on Talematros.

In the briefing Duran said "The pylon clusters are generating some kind of Electro-magnetic field that's prevent our air units from maneuvering. We won't have any air support at all"

So that means that the Khaydarin Crystal pylons are able to generate an energy field to stop air units flying nearby. Would Blizzard implement this piece of Protoss technology in the SC2?

Imagine what would happen if such a technology is implement? And think how unbalanced the game would be!!

Well, it's pretty much the exact opposite as the Corsair Disruption Web.

Here's some food for thought. What if they made a melee air unit?

A Protoss or Terran equivalent to Scourge perhaps? A robotic thing that attaches itself to the enemy air units and burns a hole into them?

or the robotic then could transfer nano bots to destory it from the inside wouldnt work for mutas but then again it could transfer diesease to biological air units although biological warfare and nano bots are probably centuries old compared to the SC tech.

edit: ok i take back the biological warfare part i just remembered the defilers and queens ugh u gotta hate when u get plagued, ensared, BrOoDeD, and other things

Or it could just be a flying Scarab. I don't understand you guy's "burn a hole in it", or the "nanobots".....Why not just blow it up?

I don't understand you guy's "burn a hole in it", or the "nanobots" ...why not just create a small black hole on top of it and suck it up?

hey hey hey... imagine this. it'll be worse than a psionic storm for air units.

imagine an insta-cast electromagnetic field that disables air units instantly, given a certain radius. and all these air units just crash onto the ground.

    woot.

What the hell... yep, I can really see the mothership crashing to the ground from one move! :p

You know, it's funny....That sounds exactly like the Black Hole ability for the Mothership....

    Weird....

nonono... the black hole takes time... an idea would be... er... have any of you guys played generals: zero hour? if you have, you'd understand by what happens to planes when they get attacked by the USA superweapon general's EMP missiles...

but for all those who don't understand what i'm talking about, this EMP field thingy doesn't affect organic units, as it's not called electro magnetic pulse for nithing. it kinda interferes with electricity or energy in a machine itself... thus, what happens when it's cast over a group of units consisting of say, terran 1) marines, 2) siege tanks and 3) battlecruisers?

    1) marines won't be affected, cos their suit is powered mainly by themselves...
    2) siege tanks are affected, so they won't be able to move for a period of time due to electricity malfunction. after that, they resume normal movement.
    3) battlecruisers are the same as siege tanks, they won't be able to move due to electricity malfunction. BUT... hello, they're in the air! what's to keep them coming down, i ask you?

so that's what i'm talking about... but i think this idea's kinda flawed, it doesn't cover zerg... it can only be used in battles between terran and protoss. so... plz don't flame me for such a unbalanced idea. :-\

Because I like my idea :-[

I thought there already was an EMP in the game, from the Science Vessel?

but that removes shields from the protoss, and takes away energy, but it doesn't power down units totally... there's a difference.

Well, all I can say about this is that those things which can keep air units out must be pretty expensive if they put em' in the game.

Actually, the siege tanks are most likely grounded against an EMP.

Hope so. In the demo of c&c3 its a map-building you have to conquer (and you get free EMP wave in like every 3 minutes which you can target all over the map (as long as there is no fog of war)). The ironic thing was that I was about to take that building (cause it also crashed a transport with a engineer, the units you need to take over buildings) and every air unit was next to it.

I liked the old Starcraft EMP that just destroyed all energy and shields. If anything, here's an idea: an EMP rocket can also disable a Protoss building by sort of knocking out it's connection from the power field; and an EMP missile being able to disable a Phase Prism so that it stops creating power fields (but not Pylons, though, that would be too much)

Lets get back to the subject please guys.

Electromagnetic field that disables air units are a fine method of defense. who says it will disable them for 5 minutes?
maybe it's a 5 or 10 second disabling, that would count as a wise counter attack against air units.
Maybe the Protoss energy field (used for when pylons are destroyed so proton canons can't be used mostly (SC2 demo)) also disables the air units, you did not see that in the demo but it is a possibility.

I can break a mirror so fast that the 7 years of of unluckiness hits the guy behind me!
