UPDATE: All the keys have been handed out for today, Blizzard claims to be giving more out on Monday! So keep an eye on that page and we'll continue to give you updates. What started as an April Fool's joke has quickly turned into one of the best ways on the internet to try to get a beta key. Well, except maybe eBay. Blizzard has been giving out real StarCraft 2 beta keys via their Facebook fan page. Grab your junk food, it's a stakeout! The rumor is that the keys will be posted as images, so keep checking that account. Two were given out already today with the promise of four more sometime after 4 PM PST. While you're on Facebook, don't forget to join our fan page. You'll receive all our StarCraft 2 news updates!
So desperate, waiting on a FB page to try and get a key... You just know that so many others will do it too. I just bet that some will have another comp ready so they can type the key without having to open the client open on the same computer.
You don't need to have two computers if you have two monitors... but i don't have two monitors. *thinks* Alt-tab ftw!
DO what I did: Get a laptop, problem solved (and it's good for schoolwork) ==== Yeah, so BoP doesn't use Facebook, and he has many other things to do with his time than stare at a screen aall day pressing F5 hoping to get lucky (ie. not have the internet freeze while trying to validate the key)
UPDATE: All keys have been given out for Friday, but according to their page more keys will be distributed on Monday, though maybe not in the same fashion. We'll keep you posted!
So Blizzard are giving beta keys out to first in first served basis on the facebook page while many people who are opted into the beta still do not have a key? That makes no sense to me.
It's clearly a marketing ploy to get people to fan them on Facebook. Why companies are so obsessed with stuff like this is beyond me. But it works.
People spend more time on Facebook a day than they do brushing their teeth, eating, reading, you name it.
And I'm sure the second these keys pop up on the facebook page 100 thousand people will be madly trying to type in the code and their details to get into the beta. Heaven forbid if you make make a typing mistake or have a slow net connection or even blink. Cause then you won't make it in. Someone would have beaten you.
Because they know everyone and their mother wants in, and they're trying to see how far people are willing to go to get it. They will then sell their data to a psychology research center to study the affects, giving Blizzard even more money and learning the limits they can force people to go without killing each other for it.
