And can anyone tell me if the stuff that the writer discusses applies to other countries like Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, or is it just the US? Anything even remotely nerdy or geeky gets a bad rap in this backwards-a** country.

Take a look at the other articles and realize that this is a humor site. It's not to be taken for hard journalistic thought, despite the presentation. Cracked is like The Onion, but less known, more crude, and with half the budget.

Gamers are far more accepted these days because most people in America in their 30's or even 40's grew up playing games. AND; ...Revenge of the Nerds will always be funny.

I live in a country with more females who think of themselves as gamers than males who think of themselves as gamers. Which really does wonders for the image of gamers.

i'm sure the majority of employers won't recognize being a guildmaster in WoW to be anything other than playing a game, as opposed to "real" leadership/management skills.

Out here in Southern Cali I swear its the new cool thing to say you're a gamer and when you ask what games they play they reply "Rockband" "Guitar Hero" oh I play WoW too" Then you ask really? What do you play? "I have a level 14 Night Elf Rogue."

I'm a gamer, infact, i'd consider myself to be quite the nerd. I'm not afraid to admit it! Why should I be? Just because I have a different definition of having fun? - I think not! Many people laugh at people like me, commenting ''Haha! You're smart'' etc... That's how ridiculous it is, and I don't think it's ever going to change. People still stereotype us (gamers/nerds) to be tall, skinny and to stay in their rooms all day playing video games. I myself enjoy playing video games, perhaps more excessively than others, but that's because I ENJOY it. I don' enjoy rowing, I don't enjoy playing rugby. Granted, I like playing a bit of football, but I get constantly called lazy for doing something I enjoy simply because I have a different hobby!

I'm not sure if others feel the same way, or if others are ashamed to play games, but I hope that they can understand that there's nothing wrong with it; it's just another hobby, that, infact, many people, and I mean many, many people, enjoy, but are afraid to admit it.

    Ben.

I'm a gamer, not a hardcore f***ing gamer, though. I enjoy some Warcraft III or some other Blizzard game every now and then on my laptop. I know I'm somewhere on the geek spectrum, or I wouldn't even be here. I've been on internet forums where there are nerd jobs that make me look like a G.I.N.O.

I definitly think here in Canada that it's more or less the same situation as america. But i mean we only get a bad rap in the mainstream eye. Just like if a American eagle wearing nerd hater started posting on these forums, he would probably get it worse than Prodigal.

west coast seems more open about these things though, lots of geek culture around. still wouldn't expect gaming to be seen very positively though.
