There are a fair number of young Poles breaking away from John Paul II's strangle hold. I do believe the country is changing for the better now; even if it is a slow process. Or maybe you mean that my homeland was raped back in WWII and it's strange to see it have power. Poland has held many years as the strongest European Kingdom back when kingdoms were around. I recall you mentioning a bike trip, check out some Polish castles and medieval museums while you're visiting. I'd fully expect Poland to have a huge land army. Compulsory service aside; you are talking about a group of people too proud to be occupied again without a bloody mess. With economic growth rocketing since the eviction of the USSR and new strong ties to a major world player like America, they have the resources and most certainly have the will/fear.
Our political parties are currently negotiating about forming a new cabinets after the election two months ago(we kinda have a problem in that regard), and Wilders is continually not invited, except by the largest party, who he refuses to negotiate with, because someone else would need to join the cabinet to get more than half the votes, and he wants to negotiate with all other at once. The annoying thing is that this guy gets more and more popular in polls. Will someone please just let him in the government so he can screw up(his plans include forcing citizens with dutch passwords out of the country, funding multi-million euro project by cancelling one that costs tens of thousands, and more stuff like that)
It goes to show you what kind of people are trying to run countries around the world. Scary, if you think about it? But the question is, how the heck did Geert Wilders actually receive that much attention to become a "politician"?
Mostly problems with young people of Marocan descent througout the country. Also, he isn't actually in charge of anything yet. That's all just bluff. We are still forming a cabinet(yes we have been at it for 2 months, thanks for asking), so we aren't sure yet. What seems most probable now is that while he does get into the cabinet, he will support some points from parties that are less to the right(from an american standpoint that means left-wing policies) and hope for more votes next election.
I am sorry ijffie, it took us 6 months to form a cabinet and it got shot down by the oppotition 18 months later forcing us to be pretty much without any government for two years. Stop complaining.
I am counting on the formation taking at least another month, perhaps two or three. Still better of than you I guess. Unless we listen to Wilders and hold re-elections(wilders tries to portray himself as a rebel against traditional politics. By insulting politicians. And eating out of his nose. And making barfy sounds during speeches).
