How on earth can you think that D9 was better? The first half was almost genious. The second half was completely and uterly ****. A good movie? I will concede on that. Better than Inglorious Basterds? No.
Avatar was pretty with a meh plot Inglorious bastards was just plain fun to watch. District 9 (for me anyway) was a nice twist on the aliens coming to earth. Though I can understand why some people don't like when it started to get all action orientated, especially if they liked the documentary style of the movie. Personally loved the fight scenes but each to their own i guess.
The whole ordeal about summarizing which movie you feel fits as the best of all time (or more specifically a limited amount of time such as a year) strikes a nerve with the same line of thinking of which game(s) you find best of all time(or again of a particular year) Too much time is wasted in my honest opinion rating a movie as the best of the best. I feel it'd be much more resourceful to talk about what movies/games you enjoy rather then putting them in a list of 'so-n-so' over 'so-n-so' because of said reasons behind it. What do I mean by that? I mean just say which you like rather then pitting them vs each other like a competition for top contender. If you think I'm wandering around without a point, then here is my reasoning for bringing this up; Movie of the year awards and the like are a flawed aspect of society. Couldn't we much more preach about all the ones we liked rather then choosing only one as the best cream of the crop? There is no way one can completely compare any 2 movies, they are for the most part all there to entertain, or in some cases to educate the audience. --->Again, it should be "My Favorite Movies* of the year!" instead of "The Best movie of the year". No need for the title to only be held by one. If I'm off topic, may I state I loved both movies in their own respect, and I did personally feel inglorious bastards stuck out in my mind as painting a very enjoyable villain (the kind you love to hate) Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) as well being a very enjoyable movie to watch if you don't take everything it portrays too seriously. The dramatic dialogs in the movie won it over for me. Where as District 9 is a fun movie to watch if you don't know anything about it in advance...it's a crime on our culture that we tend to over hype, and even overly insult movies to the point of warping opinions of that movie. I enjoyed how it felt original to me, as something I hadn't truly seen yet amongst my memory of movies, and I also liked how it was actually based on true events, but instead of aliens/spaceships ect, it had real people in the true events. Now, the meaning behind District Six, Cape Town, is not one of joy to know of - but I found it interesting how you can plug in a creature like an alien into the mix to make people feel less sympathetic towards, and agree to a extent of the way they are treated - only to then say, "this actually happened, but there was no space ships, and they were actually humans involved in these events." - to be sort of an 'awaken' to how shameful our pasts can be, even if you personally or that of anyone you knew had nothing to do with it. TLDR: I liked both movies, and I don't feel we can give a *top contender* to any 1 movie...least for movie awards, it's just not something you can honestly do considering you can't compare 2 movies, least in almost all the cases. (of course there are exceptions, like re-makes ect! ^_^ )
And personally I think these movies of 2009: Terminator Salvation The Soloist Up Avatar Are much better than the two movies mentioned in this topic already. But what each person thinks is the best is different.
Only movies I saw this year were Up and Avatar, so ofc I would say Inglorious Bastards wasn't the best because I didn't see it.
I wasn't a big fan of how in Avatar they made the marine core look like a bunch of losers. Other than that it was a pretty awesome movie.
Every movie Pixar make sis better than the last one. And that's saying something coming from that studio.
Well, the Mecha robot he uses in D9 has a Gravity gun wich he uses to throw a pig. D9; Movie of the year
Huge disappointment IMO, not that the movie itself was bad, it just didn't live up to the post - apocalyptic landscape shown in 2 and 3 it was reduced from the mountains of rubble with humans living like rats in tunnels to a desert-scape that would fit a zombie outbreak better than a nuclear holocaust, even LA looked like it had just been abandoned for decades rather than nuked. tl;dr they changed it now it sucks I saw Up on a plane because there was nothing else to watch, it was surprisingly good. I really liked Avatar, so much it would have my vote out of the ones I've seen, I wasn't expecting it to completely reinvent cinematography, and I wasn't disappointed. Still have to rent Inglorious Bastards and District 9 though...
Agreed you're allowed to have your opinion on those movies. But I do not share your opinion. I really liked those 2 movies. And for some of the same reasons you said they were both crap.
