Even though I've seen this Hitler video and a thousand others like, I NEVER get tired of them @Aurora: Blizzard has hinted at that, however, the main purpose of LAN is for people who have no internet. So, effectively for them, LAN is removed. The other use of LAN is less lag and Battle.net supports both less lag through normal means (improved architecture, coding, and hardware) as well as through only having the LAN connected PCs communicate each oher. So, yes, it's LAN but LAN which requires internet. Again, this is only true if we understood Blizzard subtle hints.
Blizzard said themselves very specifically that they've got a feature that is like LAN but better and is what will replace LAN. If we're talking about "illegal" player workarounds then I'm sure LAN will be implemented eventually just like dedicated servers were implemented in Modern Warfare 2. I think the reason Blizzard removed LAN is so that they can have more legal control over Korean eSports and get more of the money which has been stolen from them for the last decade or so. I wouldn't be surprised if they let LAN be easily implemented just like Infinity Ward allowed dedicated servers to be easily implemented despite their publisher, Activision, demanding the features to be removed. Basically, if LAN is included as it was then Blizzard would lose some legal rights over the ways in which StarCraft is played and where they can charge fees. This bypasses that and lets them have more control.
By the way, connecting to b.net while playing on LAN makes it possible to make matches count towards your overall statistics, which is great. I just hope that you can still create matches without that, since practicing on LAN is often equal to losing. (if you try out new things)
There should definitely be custom matches. WarCraft 3 had it and I used it to practice new strategies or new races when I was new to the melee. I'd be shocked if this wasn't in StarCraft 2 as well.
u are one hell of spammer :laugh: back to topic.... this pseudo-lan doenst quite cut it....people with no internet will be forced to practice with the AI....lets just hope the AI is good
I just find it sad to buy an original copy of StarCraft 2 then to "crack" it to play with friends..... That's just stupid. Unless they provide an online-check (userlogin) before they let us play in LAN (where there's no Latency Issue) then that would be a great idea.
I find it hard to sympathize with people who don't have internet, to be honest. Yes, I understand that some people simply cannot have it but internet, like many things, is a luxury and just because you don't have it shouldn't mean that a company should go out of their way to ruin their own pofits. It's like having a console or a PC. Just because you don't own a particular console or a fast enough PC shouldn't mean that a company should be expected to create a version of the game just for the consoles that you do have or create a DOS version of the game that could run on your POS PC. By the way, I say this because I still believe that Blizzard will implement a LAN-like service through Battle.net which will be the same as LAN but with an internet requirement. I know of the piracy in other countries and as a person who hates such piracy and is harmed by it, I have absolutely no sympathy for them. I'm glad LAN was removed. It'll give Blizzard enough control over their own eSports to make profts off of them. Besides, we all know LAN will be cracked in shortly after release so you're really not losing anything. Removing LAN in the official products just gives Blizzard that legal right to enforce eSports and that's enough for me. I'm pretty sure I've already said all of this in this topic but while we're bumping I might as well say it agian.
Even if blizzard does not impliment anything someone else will do.. As tychus said it may be a simple crack which will bypass b.net authentication and have a hamachi style add-on for LAN... or it maybe something like ICCUP.. these guys in Blizzard cannot escape the inevitable... sooner or later someone will free multiplayer function..
Do not give your CD-KEY even to your friends. You will not be able to play with your own game (you possess the real game). Can't run Crysis Warhead because of this. It was for a LAN game and they wanted a CD-KEY, they had a pirated copy of the game. I don't know why I wrote this. But don't trust your friends !!
Beesides if yoou want to sticck LAN play use Brood War for it . Your right tho some will pass it on anyway. StarCraft Forever.
