Though I thought that Praetor was supposed to be higher than Executor in SC seing as Artanis is the player in SC and is above the player in BW.

Artanis isn't the player in SC, Executor is the highest military ranking in protoss structure. Fenix was praetor, and you command him, Artanis is praetor, and you command him.

 

I could have swore that Blizard said that Artaniss was the person you play in the SC campaign

Artanis Became an Exeutor and replaced Tassadar and then at the begining of Brood war he was promoted to Praetor.

You people are much to hung up on controling the units in the campaign. Theres two possible explanations.
1. in the first campaign Fenix merley defered to your command because you were in charge of the operation, and similarly Artanis and Zeratul did on Shakuras.
2. We ignore the player entierly and say that Fenix and Artanis were actually acting of their own volition above the Executor, They are simply player controled in the campaign because a computer conntrol would have been more difficult for the player to deal with.

One thing that adds credebility to the defering to command thing, is the fact that you control Zeratul despite him not even being in the command structure.
