It's kinda human nature if you think about it. When ever there is a bunch of us around, there is bound to be an argument or two.
Isn't civilization about overcoming our base instincts? It's generally not hard to calmly debate if both parties are civilized about it. There is never any excuse to argue when a debate is apropos. For starters, a debate is far more efficient. When you argue, you're essentially shouting till your blue in the face, the winner is the one who passes out from oxygen loss second. When you calmly debate, oft times, you reach a middlegrounded conclusion, one that is often the best.
but sadly, the majority of the human population isn't smart enough to know how to do that. Calm debates can quickly rise into angry arguements
Au contraire Eon, I believe that a singular human is more than smart enough to. The applied intelligence of mankind is an inverse relation with the quantity. The more people there are, the more idiotically they act. However, a single person is capable of making quite intelligent decisions, nevermind their actual level. In situations such as forum, while it's many people project their own opinion, there's not 'idea mobs.' it's essentially every man, woman, and child for themselves. As such, I'd assume that each one of us has the ability to 'rise above' our fight or flight instinct, and respond in a calm, polite, and, most importantly, coherent manner. I see far too many flame wars where there doesn't need to be. There are many hotbed topics, more today than in days past. But is it really so very difficult to act human? If we fight so heatedly amongst ourselves, what makes us any different than many of the lesser beasts that roam this Earth?
Lounge wasn't always like that... It's 'funny' how the description was changed, so now we have serious business board, spam board and no place in between. And by funny I mean, it sucks.
Man is intelligent and willing to think things through, people are ignorant, panicky, and bloodthirsty. Just my opinions. edit: ah I knew I heard that phrase somewhere before. thank you to the guy below me who reminded me where it was from.
