I'm a noob (ranked 16th in Bronze) but I do win a few games, esp against other Toss players. The one thing I keep falling to though is when the Z player makes mass Roaches early on.

Even with a line of Zealots and a few Stalkers firing from a safe distance they always overcome me. I do try to micro to focus on one at a time (I read they have poor armour but regenerate quickly) but then I'm not building new units and calling more to the front lines.

    What can I do? :(

Roachs only regenerate when burrowed, i recommend having a few droids in your armor using there shield ability it weakens there attacks and lets you rip them apart.

I guess this is where I suck most - microing during battle! I think I panic too much and forget to use units special abilities. Do you use keyboard shortcuts for stuff like this? Everything I do (including buildings) is still mouse based...

Immortal. Immortals are the guaranteed counter to Roaches.

That and the Droid (what's it called now? Used to be Nullifier) as Seradin suggested. The Immortal does so much damage (35 vs. Armored) that it will tear those Roaches apart. Make sure you have some Stalkers and Zealots as well, but the Immortal will let you really win the battle.

Immortals do total of 50 Dmg to roaches and their hardened shields activate to them too and only cost 200/100, that's like 3 roaches. Believe me, 1 immortal can down a lot of roaches with proper support. Multiply that by many, and it's total destruction to roaches.

    Nullifier's new name is Sentry.

I've also seen Sentry's force field ability used to cut off sections or armies for easier destruction or block off reinforcements to a expo under attack. Immortals are the ultimate counter for Roaches. If you think zerg is going roaches, tech to immortals.

One key thing, Roaches do regenerate VERY quickly when burrowed, but they do have a base line passive talent to regenerate more quickly then any other zerg unit just normally as well. So mico them to kite/leave battle is effective to (not as effective as burrowing when being focused but...yeah).

Question, under a protective shield would an immortal take 8 damage to its shields or 10 (because of 16-2>10)?

This has been working great for me. It only doesn't work out if I don't micro well enough and leave the Immortals exposed on the same line as the Zealots and/or the Z micros well and focusses all attacks on the immortals first.

    @ Kuvasz,

The Immortal takes 8 because you're taking the final damage done to a unit and then subtracting 2 from the ranged attack.

I just found this forum and thought I should start posting here. When I play against zerg and I know they're going roaches, definitely immortals all the way as stated before. Immortals will rip through roaches as you have some sort of army to protect it. What I like to do is have a couple of immortals and stalkers w/ blink. Just blink any dying stalker behind the immortals and continue the battle. The battle should end in your favor. Always have an observer up too incase of in burrowing action they might try to do. Someone mentioned using Sentrys to cut their army off, it's nice but normally I use their barrier that decreases the dmg by range, it's really a life saver.

If you don't have immortals yet, you can always build a couple of cannons near the ramp of your base to ward them off from an earlier attack. Just watch out for any of that Ny tunnel drop thingy, that thing can wreak havoc upon your main base.

I feel roaches are becoming a little less popular nowadays, they are there just to have some sort of defense or army as they tech to mutas or hydras.

If none of this work, just proxy outside his base with two gateways and pool zealots into his base :D. It's definitely an uphill battle for zerg to defend against a ton of zealots. With some minor microing of zealots, you can basically not lose any zealots while pumping in fresh new ones.

Get some immortals quickly for the roaches. They are easy to counter.

And for the micro thing try memorizing the hotkey for everything That looks like a good start to me. It might take a week or two to get used to it but you'll be 5 times faster after that, making the micro thing with your units much more easy =D

    Try it

It was not a love letter in the true sense of the word, but pages of the minutest directions of how"my sweetest Phina"was to elude her father's vigilance, creep down to the drift at night and there meet Jantje with a horse which would take her to Smitsdorp.
