Anyway, a new Overmind is impossible. All cerebrates are dead (confirmed at BlizzCon 2007's lore panel). If Kerrigan dies, I suspect another infested terran would take over. Maybe her new consort or kid? (That's just speculation.) Or maybe a powerful queen.

my guess is that kerrigan will have reverse the infestation that she has been into, and the zerg will fall to the new hybrids beeing prepared by the Xel-Naga..

The most mysterious thing(from what I've heard) is that Kerrigan is appearing in a mission in the first campaign stating "We are running out of time"...

 

That's because Kerrigan knows something of the coming threat. It's probably why she wants artifacts and has been avoiding combat for four years.

 

What ever happened to infected Duran? I would say he could take it over, but he was the one creating the hybrids. And the infected Matriarch was killed. Maybe at the end of SC2 the Zerg will be destroyed or nullified and the Protoss and Terran will be in peace and the entire universe will be peaceful at last. Or at least till a new threat arrives lol. *Just my thoughts*

 

Duran is working for "a far greater power" which means for the Xel'Naga probably.

 

If Kerrigan dies, Duran takes over. That, or the character the player plays in BW (or did they die? Been too long and it doesn't like Win7 :| )

same thing that happens to other insect colonies when a queen dies. they make a new one. nothings gonna happen to the zerg race as a whole if kerrigan dies. they will be confusion/disorder and chaos in the race for a bit of course and then a new queen leader will emerge and take over.

I thought so too for many years. However, in the third Dark Templar book, this was confirmed to be untrue.

The overall Swarm would just go wild. Kerrigan is the only one controlling the link that the Zerg share. Separated from that link the Swarm just becomes wild creatures. We've seen this in many missions in Broodwar. But there is also another factor. Someone could create an artificial way to control the Zerg and take over parts of the Swarm. Such as what Schezar's Scavengers did to control the Swarm in the Enslavers series of maps. Which is why I prefer Kerri. She is at least partially sane.

 

1) are the books canon as in officially part of the story no matter what
2) there's potential that the xel'naga could become a playable race and get their own rival species

 

Not only is he dead, he's not even mentioned in the Story So Far. (If he reappears, new players who have never played StarCraft I won't know who he is.) Also, being popped by a broodling = death.

 

If Kerrigan dies. My starcraft 2 game goes out the window.

 

If kerrgian dies? That's easy. You the player takes over obviously. The player is a cerebrate and you would most likely have power enough to control most if not all of the swarm yourself.
