Hey, I'm not knocking the Wings of Liberty in game music, but I could use a little more variety if you know what I mean. I think it'd be really cool to be able to play music from SC1 in SC2 as well as various other games. I've been poking around the SC2 file, but I'm not having any luck finding the place where the music files are stored. I know I could just play the music off of media player in the background if I really wanted to listen to other music, but it would be way more convenient to have it play from the game directly.
In some cases I would agree with you on your last point but in the case of an RTS where music is there to just... be there and not to play a bigger role, I don't see the inconvenience using a different programme would cause.
If I'd play more Terran I'd disagree. However, the Zerg music makes me want to smash something after listening to it for a while. Which is why I play with the music turned off, and just stream music from my comp/server to my laptop. (while playing on my desktop ) Really can't be annoyed with having other programs running on my desktop while playing SC2. Some way to directly make a playlist or shuffle music from whatever folder I'd like (from within the game) would be awesome.
Having a music program open in the back can cause a few probs. First, on lower end machines, you'd get lag and stuff. Second, during cutscenes, the music would keep playing, possibly drowning out sfx and dialogue.
I have to admit it would be pretty cool if more (any?) games had this functionality built in. Wouldn't mind being able to "broadcast" what your playing too, purely under the control of others to allow/receive it of course. Would be nice for games with friends or guildies. 'course the copyright issues would probably be a headache.
Well, it seems to be working, then. Bad jokes aside; I just deeply love the music in starcraft 2, every races music is just awesome, but putting BW music inbetween would certanly not make it worse
I did think of those things but really, if a simple music player like winamp lags your SC2 then you can't play mid-late game at all, and I do think performance and details should be set for you to be able to play competitively even with large armies. As for cutscenes, I only considered melee games since the campaign is full of dialogues and effects that would be ruined (the overall atmosphere) by any solution that isn't SC2 music/sound. That is to say, I can't imagine anyone wanting to listen to their music during the campaign, but I can somewhat see why melee players would prefer this, what with all the repetition of the music if you have several hundred games under your belt, especially if you're not playing random.
From my own standpoint at least, I would like to be able to select/change songs without having to minimize SC (I always play games in fullscreen, not windowed mode).
The Terran music is good, but I've heard some soundtracks from the original starcraft and I like them more. Blizzard should just add them in one of the patches or something!
Terran SC1 music is simply awsome! It's the soundtrack I have on my pc playing the past few days for some reason, lol
I dont like the SC music at all, just have the sounds turned down pretty low and play mp3s in the background. Doesnt cause problems for me!
