Rather; we all know noob is a dirty word. Playing an online game? Want to insult another player? Call him/her a noob.

Is this right? I don't think so.
Noob should mean new player as the original implementation of the word was.

Noob shouldn't be a "fuck you". It should be I/you haven't yet played this, give me/you some advice please.

What a resource kind, vocal veterans could be.

Agree or disagree; let's start a dialogue.

Personally I prefer term 'newbie' to address new, unexperienced players, while 'noob' mostly for players who think that are awesome, but suck and will likely never learn.
Oh, and of course for myself ;)

Yeah I call people noobs in Diablo 2, but only those who deserve it, thats those who act like @ssholes and like they are soo great but actually just, well, noobs, but authentic new players are newbies, or something more polite, and I usually help them.

I call myself noob in StarCraft. When I create games I write "only noobs" in the game name and I join games that are meant for "noobs." It's funny that people sometimes call me noob in games that are for noobs. :D

    noob is a mild insult
    newb is a statement
n00b is an even more mild insult

I was always under the impression that "newb" or "newbie" was for a new player, inexperienced and in need of advice, while noob, n00b, etc. are derogatory terms that describe a player as an amateur or fool.

The use of noob is mildly offensive and I avoid using it, even when appropriate. If it is an endearing usage, I have no problem with newbie. Some might take offense at it, so caution should be used whenever evaluating another player's skill level. Of course, using either term on oneself is unlikely to offend others.

It has seem that alot of people on the internet are sensitive about little and true things like 'noob , newb , nub , nab , newbie and n00b ' because they are playing a game they like and someone calles them one of those words which reefers them as the 'new guy'. I dont get angry or sad if someone calles me a noob or whatever, I ignore and or agree if I really am! Or if I'm a good player and someone calls me a noob then I just laugh without the other person knowing ( They never will nor can! Unless You have a headset ) So I hope this phrases this whole noob business out for You and remember those words arnt useally allowed in games and sometimes forums if its a direct attack and if its carryed on the one person and You can be banned so I would seriously just try to keep calm. Thankyou for reading.

If someone calls you a noob in an online game it's in 90% meant as an offense, sad truth

Noob and n00b are insults in my book while newb and newbie aren't. But I don't like either of them, I prefer the term beginner or just "new to it" :)

ps corey, while I understand what you want to say, please use the spell check from now on. Messy posts will give others the impression that you don't care about what you type. Spend that extra 1 minute on your posts to make yourself clearer and, frankly, more respectable.

Generally i only call some one a noob if they actually are a noob.
