I really don't understand why SC2 programmars tried to replace many so usefull units from Terran. Although I'm a Protoss user, I think Terran isn't like what it used to be.... and although it is to my advantage, I really wanted to know what others thought about.

    1. No Wraith?
I don't get the point of taking out Wraith. It's a very valuable fighter for Terran army. With just a group of Wraith with
cloak Terran can take posession of Air entirely. This unit was also very usefull for any Base Protection plus very, very
usefull for Base Raid. I don't see any air strategies coming out without Wraith..... well, others might, but I don't think
they will be as swift and effective without Wraith.
And here comes Banshee, supposely replacement for Wraith. I really think that isn't the case. Replacing a valuable
fighter for a bomber isn't very cunning..... and although Banshee might have superve ground attack, without a decent
fighter for a team, air space will be taken over and no more Banshee usage from then on.

    2. Vikings? What are they?
Supposely Viking is this great unit that replaces both Goliot and Valkeri as well as Wraith. But I think Blizzard missed
a point with Goliot..... now Vikings in ground mode doesn't even have air attack. Its cool that Terran has
this "Transformer" here, but I don't think its nesseary. I would rather like Goliot better than Viking. Vikings have........
let's see..... average Power in both ground and air, and isn't much of a fighter, nor is it any superv support unit. Vikings
are.... just there. Its like a decoration to Terran Unit. What does it do? I mean it might have better attack than Wraith,
in much bulkier and slower way, and sure, it sure beats Goliot's grond abilities. But Terrans now have no decent Air
fighter! In a hot battlefield, every second counts. Vikings takes at least a second to respond to the air raid if they are in
the ground mode. And even if they can turn fast enough, now there isn't enough Ground units, and makes an
unbalanced match in both air AND ground. Also, Vikings are not enough to handle Devours[if they come back to the
game, which I think they will] and Pheonix[with or without overload ability] Its just not really dependant fighter. And
there is plenty of threats on the ground too. I highly doubt that Vikings will do much in ground. Immortals's shield
probably activates when Viking fires, plus dashing ability makes Zelots just pummel down Vikings like a Marine.
Vikings on ground is like a useless, Transforming, Enlarged Marine. I don't think it even does the half of the job as
    good ol' Marine does.

    3. Erm..... Thors??
Thors is a swell idea in the scratch. Now Terrans have decent attacking unit to tackle Protoss in ground match! Well, I
don't see Thor really doing that. Thors are too slow for strong AND fast Protoss units. Thors take their time to prepare
and fight, while Protoss ground units are ready to roll whenever order is given. Its really not worth wasting huge money
and time to produce.... unless the enemy has really solid defense, then they have to have some Thors to defeat it. But
only "SOLID" defense around is Terran's. Theirs takes time to break, so Thors are mainly made to...... be anti-Terran?
Doesn't make sense. If Thor is going to be around, Terrans need air support units...... And unfortunatly, that really isn't
the case. I don't see how Thor will turn out without good aireal units to protect against.......

    4. Where are Goliots?
Vikings are NOT going to replace Goliots. What Blizzard is trying to do is like replacing a protable turret with an
Transformer Toy. Not going to bring Terrans to victory any time soon. Does Blizzard really want Terran players to be
creamed by Protoss and Zerg? No matter what happens, Goliot needs to come back. It's irreplaceable. There will not
be better aerial defense than Goliot. Goliot can do things even Wraith cannot do, like killing Carriers that are WITH
Obbs. Goliot can act in a group entirely itself plus it can support any units known to Terrans. BCs, Marines, Reapers,
etc. Anything, including the mighty Thor. It will make Terran's life easier to use Goliot that can exchange fires quickly
than the Transformer toy that has to take its precious time switching modes. In the field of battle, nobody has that
sweet time. Its hard core battle of victory or defeat!

Well, that is just what I thought. I might be wrong about it, but Blizzard is makeing a mistake by taking out Valk, Wraith, and Goliot and replacing it with Children's Transformers Toy. Terrans can't play heros anymore. BaneLings, Ninus Worms..... Zerg already gotten stronger just by adding two units, and according to Blizzard, I'm sure There will be more things ending with "Lings" than Zerglings and Banelings. I love the new units like Thor and upgraded BC, and even the Banshee. But they all need aerial support to pull through. Besides, doesn't it looks cooler when Thor is surrounded by Goliot and protected by Fleet of Wraith than bunch of Vikings?

I think that the Wraith is actually being directly replaced by the Predator. While I believe that the Predator should also have a weak ground attack like the Wraith did, I am fine with its AA capability and missile-blocking skill. The latter especially should lead to some cool new strategies and anti-air countering.

I disagree completely with you regarding the Viking. It is a great replacement for the Goliath. In ground mode, it pretty much IS the Goliath, and your argument against it seemed to be centered on the lack of air attack. Well, with one click, the Viking is transformed and BAM you got anti-air, so I don't see how the Terrans are losing the Goliath's anti-air capabilities. Yes, it takes a few seconds to transform, but if you are just depending on only Vikings for defense against air units you are not a good player. Not to mention that a whole host of new strategies will be created due to the sheer versatility of the Viking.

So really, so far Starcraft is going from Wraith, Valkyrie, Battlecruiser >>> Predator, Banshee, Viking (air form), Battlecruiser. I am pretty sure that this is a very fair air transformation. Different units, different abilities, but just as efficient.

As far as the Thor goes, it will be a kick-butt unit provided it is supported well. And with the new Terran armada, Reapers, Marines, Siege Tanks, and the new Ghost I don't believe that players will have trouble doing exactly that.

I think that terran air in StarCraft 2 is superior to terran air in StarCraft.

the question is, in terms of AA power, which is better:

    predator + viking air form

    or

    wraith + goliath + valkyrie

    because that's what's being replaced.

    you forgot the cobra.

so the trio of cobra, predator and viking is better than the original's trio. i have a lot of hopes with the predator. the name is pwnage.

Erm.... Sorry, I don't go on computer often to check on new attack units. What is Predator? Is it a replacement for Wraith?? I haven't been keeping up with it lately....

Also, I still disagree with Viking movement. Every Second counts in the war and Viking takes their time transforming, and in that second the battle's tied will be turned. And..... I do agree that Viking is very superior ground unit as well as superior air unit. I'm sure it can replace Valkerie easily. However, when Viking is changing, it will leave the gap in ground power. Since you did mention about good players, usually all good players fight against good players. And good players will take advantage of the shift of power for the advantage. Using aeral units to lure Vikings into air, then swiftly sending its fastest, most vicious units to take care of supportless Marines and SeigeTanks. It takes at least 2 seconds to immedatly turn Viking back from ground to air to ground again. The time will be taken advantage of. This "shifting the power" isn't a good choice for Terran, especially since Terran ground units are normal in power and normal in army size. Otherwise, I think it is ok unit.... but I really would like for Goliot and Wraith to come back....... they will bo sorely missed..... well, not really since now I have no reason to retreat my Carriers because of cloaked wraith or massed Goliots.

The Goliath is not making an appearance in SC2 as far as I know.

Also, if you ask me the Terran air options have significantly expanded. The Viking gives excellent abilities at both avoiding air attacks by landing and by suddenly being able to counter an air threat and deciding when and where to engage air units.

If you add in the Predator and the Banshee together, those two together are pretty much the super-wraith. It's not like the Zerg options for air units with ground and air attacks. The Guardians and Devourers are rather slow. The Banshee and Predator plus the Viking will add ENORMOUS potential to the Terran air strategy. Before you only had the Wraith, Valkyrie, and Battlecruiser. Absolutely no ATG AoE attack.

Cobras will pwn light air units Such as bansheers and phoniex. Against armored units they do like 35 dmg and I'm assuming almost all air units will be considered armored.

i prefer the goliaths shape over the viking
but i prefer the vickings micro options over the goliath.

since it now costs less to build anti infantary and anti air, and those units are now easier to save, i think the vicking is far better for terran that the valkeri and the goliath ever were.

No StarCraft II unit is a direct "replacement" for a StarCraft I unit. The original Terran and the SCII Terran have different units for different purposes that aren't identical. It is not like they should just change the name and shape of a few units and say that they are new. They need to switch around abilities, give new purposes to other units, etc. The Banshee is NOT a replacement for the Wraith just because it has a cloak ability. The only way that you could say that a unit is a 'replacement' for another unit is if it had exactly the same purpose. This is true for the Viking. On the ground, it has a light gatling gun like the Goliath, and in the air it has anti-air missiles, like the Valkyrie (AND the Goliath, for that matter). It sounds like you are relying too much on Goliaths for anti-air. Don't worry. The Terran will have anti air, it just wont be exactly the same. Other units that weren't in the first game will have anti air capabilities, like the Viking and the Predator. (not to mention the missile turrets, which are still in the game)

Who said that the purpose of the Thor was to counter Protoss units? I thought it was for base demolition. :-\

So try not to worry too much. I do agree that the look of the Goliaths is better than the toy-ish look of the Vikings, but this does not mean that Vikings are not strong/useful. As for Thors, don't try to use them against fast units. Only slow units and buildings.

Motto i think your tyhinking of the charon boosteres upgrade.

Also while i think the cobra needs to be tweaked its and good idea and the predator is not just meant for anti air its defense ability combined with battlecruisers and a starbase could be devestaing.

As the original topic the terrans new theme seems to be versitily and range with good defense. if they could have units that were veristile and good in both jobs it could quickly become overpowered there streangth is that versitility and the abilty to have one unit do multiple jobs. (like the viking)

Terran units are often good at one Job but thats fine as Protoss units are better at the one Job they are build for. I´m pretty shure that the Viking would loose to the Phoenix in an airfight and to a Stalker ina ground fight.
