...and can any tell me what's up with the ending? The last 2 episodes are like a psychedelic mind trip into someone's subconsciousness. Really wish it ended the story, it doesn't tell you what happens, how the calamity started, why angels were attacking, or what becomes of the villains/heroes. Hate when animes end without suming up the story with an actual ending... EDIT: found out there's a remake of the last few episodes called The End of Evangelion that's supposed to show what happens. Going to go watch it as it should be a lot better than the 2 last eps. >.<
well there are two endings. the "psychedelic mind trip into someone's subconsciousness" is basically about shinji and his relationship with everyone in the series including his father while the other ending (dont know if you watched it yet) entails events with the last angel (you probably would would like to watch this for yourself) the reason for these two endings (or at least the psychedelic mind trip into someone's subconsciousness ending) was due to the fact that the guy who created evengelion became bankrupt or something and was also sent to jail for tax evasion? not sure that is why there are someparts that arent event animations but look like storyboards if you like the series there are two new movies out: evengelion 2.0 you are not alone and evengelion 2.22 you cannot advance, the third not sure when it will come out the movies are pretty much the whole series but with some twists to it if you are really a fan there is suppose to be a live action version with the producers of Lord of the Rings directing it, (though that was back in like 2006 you can see a video on youtube) just type in evengelion live action Considering the advancements in cinema tech with such films as avatar and transformers, the biggest thing i heard for its delay is that a lot of studios would like to have the rights to the move enjoy
The maker had a psychological breakdown half-way through the series, but the series was later given a true ending with the end of evangelion movie. end of evangelion, was made to give the series a true ending and works pretty good with the last two episodes(the end of evangelion movie is what happens in the physical world, the last two episodes are what happens psychologically). @aem: The last angel was Kaworu who died in the series itself And if you still want more after 'end', you can always watch the first rebuild of evangelion movies. They are very good. Just don't watch death and rebirth, it's pretty much a clipshow of the series followed by the first half of end of evangelion.
2/3 through the End of Evangelion, and it's definitely better. Depressing to see the characters starting to die off, but that usually makes an anime more memorable in the end.
You actually have to have a fairly extensive religious background to get a lot of what happens in evangelion (not like being in church a lot, but just knowing the mythology and history of christianity). I believe what happens in the end is that all humans merge into a single subconscious, while shinji is left on earth as Adam and is accompanied by Eve, who compromises equal parts of all the women he loved.
Actually that last part was jossed by word of god. She just had the eye-color because of the odd lighting of the final scene, AND more people are gonna come back; It is stated in the movie itself that anyone with enough willpower can recreate his body.
This is sort of what I recall except I thought Shinji makes the choice to live in the world at the end, instead of as a singular consciousness. I'm not sure I'd say you need to understand or that the series is rooted in religion so much as philosophic concepts. Religion acts as the backdrop (specifically christianity, which is ironic because the religious aspects of christanity aren't nearly as well suited to the individual/group/consciousness aspects as some other religions), but the meat and bones of what is going on isn't specific to it. I've been told the remake is done more clearly, but I haven't gotten around to watching it. edit: On a side note I'm working my way through Soul Eater right now, which has turned out to be a hell of a lot better than I was expecting, although I've been told I need to read the manga.
The rebuild is more of an alternate universe than a remake. Characters are made more likeable, new characters are introduced, and even if you don't like that you can still watch for the utterly awesome special effects.
He's a little more likeable. He actually tries to get along with his son at one point. But that doesn't work out. That really doesn't work out. Anything more would be a spoiler.
Uh... If you watch the VERY start of the original movie (the part with all of the Japanese speak and the letters flying by), that part is actually the real reason the movie was even made. While I have heard about his mental break down half-way threw righting the series, the movie was only made because of all of the "death threats" (that is what all of that gibberish is about at the start). I tend to end my Eva conversations at that. I stopped giving a damn after watching the end of the series (and I watched the original movie).
