and I would like to know what you would do - given you don't know what he is doing right from the beginning. This guy just made his cc a fortress put two tanks around it and a few turrets. And then he started to take several expansions extremely early: all with turrets and fortress. Although I realized his strat after some time and went for battlecruisers I lost the game because he just had one bc more than me. I must add that he also had a few banshees which made simple siege tank attacks on the fortresses impossible. I destroyed one or two expansions but this guy was fortifying the rest with so many turrets. What would you go for as soon as you realize what he is up to? Replay is attached - I know that I made tons of single mistakes. But besides that, what would be the appropriate counter for that - because I can't imagine that this is really a viable strat.
I will watch after this. But surely you could have used helions to run around with the speed upgrade and fry workers, or do mass drops in the back of his main with medivacs. After watching it I can tell you that going for batllecruisers was your mistake and not expanding. Theres no reason to need them. you microed the bc's poorly at the top left expo and could have taken out many many more workers. Thors and marines would have been a better choice, and you were way behind on upgrades as well.
here the thing with that game its not what units you should have gotten, but rather what you should have done which is make more scvs ( you are way low ALWAYS make SCVS its the only thing a CC can do) expand to both golds as he is battening down the hatches then, consider unit composition, the most effeciant is going to be tank viking with the vikings give you sight range to kill his tank without the sight range, or just stim maurders and watch it all die ( Marines were the worst choice but you didnt have enough money to do other stuff mainely cause you had not enough scvs and you queued the marines dont do that) simpley know that the weakness to this strat is that he cannot move out and attack you any time soon so dont worry about it.
^ I was just thinking the same thing as this dude after I watched the replay. You have a more mobile force early on, take advantages of him using PF instead of CC on his expansions and expand to the gold ones. He would of been able to done **** against it. Scouting is important too....it's important any game. If you would of scouted what he had you wouldn't of made so many barracks - marines at the start to turn into a waste of minerals. Tanks - Vikings would of been the way to go, just bring some workers to repair a long side.
Ok, thanks for the answers! Actually I normally don't suck as badly with scvs but this strat totally threw me off track. And for the gold expansions: When I saw that he bunkered in I knew some sneaky fast tech (banshees) was coming. So I didn't feel like I could afford to take my time to expand. When his banshees failed I was expecting something liks bcs. And again, the same thing as with the tech: When I saw he was mass expanding and fortifying the expansions, I thought I would not be able to catch up if I just started to expand as well. I thought (maybe I was wrong - just to explain the train of thought) that I had to punish him for the hard eco and kill his expansions asap. I felt that otherwise I would never be able to catch up and would lose to some crazy tech. Would my gold expansions not have fallen to his mass cruisers if I had invested in them rather than in bcs?
I know, my bc micro was just .... lol. But I was surprised as well, how easily they would engage a turret by themselves and how hard it is to keep them away from the turret but focused on the workers. So your tip against pf would be thors? But even if they could take out a mass repaired pf: I would still have the problem of bcs a few minutes later. I don't see how I could have escaped the situation since he was hard teching.
gotta go tanks man. BCs should almost never be the answer. they are an incredibly expensive late game tech unit. if you and your opponent are having BC faceoffs then you both are just sitting back and teching which is generally a sign of inexperience play. no offense intended, but everyone would be good at sc2 if people just waited til 200 food to fight
Basicly the most easy thing you could have done was expand. Since you saw him turtling you could take that option and throw up an expansion. Banshees can be killed by a few marines without much problem and you should have taken the lead up on that expansion. Your BC count was higher than his but you threw them into a bunch of turrets which led them to low hp and at a huge disadvantage when the time to face the enemy's bcs came. Also you should have opted for double yamatos per enemy BC to take them out fast and reduce the incoming damage and then focus fire on the other ones, no need to micro them away etc, just simple stuff. A little earlier scout would have informed you of your opponent turtling a little earlier too. His army was so immobile that some siege tank play with scanner sweeps would have helped you take out a base easily too. There was quite a few things you could have done, but indeed that was a weird strat he used, lol, but generally easily counterable. Interresting game imo.
Perhaps you think too much, sometimes pro players can be caught offguard by a total noob. You expect him to know what he's doing perhaps he's just lost at what to do next after his banshee fails, and hence BC massing while turtling. I don't think I ever play a terran up to BC because it'll end faster than you ever know PS: Sometimes you just know you're losing because you pick the wrong scissor/stone/paper. I know I did when I mass marine and turns out the other guys is massing hellion (you seldom see hellion in gold/bronze league anywas) So... you win some / lose some
you see that he put a PF at his main? get your orbital at 15 (like normal) and outmine him. lay siege to his PF expo, coupled with marines along with your tanks.
