I was just wondering if any of you have pets and what kind/how many?

I have two turtles and a frog. I've had the two turtles for about three years and the frog for about four or five years.

If I missed any pets, just tell me.

It's a turtle in water ;) You also missed fish and arachnids.

Oh and there is no way to edit your poll. Ask a mod to do it.

I have two Akita muts. Their dad was purebred, and the mom was some sort of mut with a bit of german shepherd in her.

I don't think its good to keep an animal caged up for our own covetousness, so I have 0 pets, except the spiders who casually wonder into my room.

    You also forgot crustaceans.

i have a calico cat, she is just lovely, comes and goes as she pleases, likes to bring me gifts as well, caterpillars, grasshoppers, birds, and even a snake or two, its the birds that gets me the most tho, because if they arent brought in dead they fly about in my room and she tries to catches it again, usually waking me up in the process.

besides her, i have a Ball( or Royal ) Python. pretty mild manner it is(i havent got it sexed yet) loves to climb all over the place in its cage, i just wish i have a whole room just for it so that way i can make the environment can look more lifelike.

I sort of have a cat. We don't keep any for now, but there's one stray which comes at our house pretty much everyday and she isn't afraid of humans anymore. Also we give her food and that makes her "ours" too ;p

Have a dog, a budgie, a dove, thousands of tadpoles and consequently a few frogs, though they're hard to spot, in some ponds in our backyard, as well as some fish and the mosquito wrigglers we 'farm' to feed them all.

I'd really like a ferret though. They're awesome. There's also fish and other rodents, like ferrets, to add. Just give me a list of pets to add and I'll be happy to update the poll.

I would like a pet but I know I'm not going to take good care of it so I don't have one. For its own good of course.

Nice attitude  I claim the same thing (especially for fish, reptiles and arachnids who tend to have really small space to move around in), which is why we have cats here. They can do whatever they like, which is why I think (and hope) they don't consider their lives imprisoned.

@Wlck: sometimes pets get treated really badly in shops and taking them home is the best solution.

I agree with kuvasz about cats. They mostly just hang around for food anyway (like the stray I mentioned), if you don't feed them enough and they find someone else who does, you've just lost a cat ^_^

That being said, I don't believe you can actually "own" a cat, at least not from the cat's point of view.

Haha that's true. They think they're the centre of attention and everyone was born to serve them.

@ Psionicz. That would only really apply to birds and fish, maybe rodents as well, but it's all really dependent on the owner. In fact, it's entirely dependent on the owner.

As I said before, I've got a dog, budgie, a dove, frogs, tadpoles and fish...

We got our dog when she was nine because her owner was giving her away. She was definitely neglected, not horribly so, but no space, mistreated, and grossly overweight (even for a Beagle). She couldn't stand to be hugged as she associated that with being picked up, which she associated with being locked in a dark laundry, which is what her previous owners did every time she barked, so needless to say she had a pathetic bark as well. Now she's doing much better, got a much stronger bark, can be hugged without having a fit, and is apparently the perfect weight for a Beagle, though she still does look pretty round. :p Our old dog was also a rescue dog. She was awesome. Best dog ever.

The budgie we got off my sister's friend who completely neglected it (I'm talking like, hosing-down-the-cage-while-the-budgie's-still-inside-type neglect) and didn't even want it any more. It's so traumatised that it we can't even get it out of its cage but it's much better off than where it was.

The dove was one of two whose mother was killed by a cat in our neighbour's backyard. Our neighbours had been so excited that a dove was nesting outside their living room window, watched it as laid its eggs and the eggs hatched, but after the mother had been killed and they'd found the two chicks in the backyard, after about six hours they were sick of them and wondering how they should 'put them down' (read 'kill'), which is where we came in and offered to take care of them if they were going to just kill them. In the end only one survived, but it's living in our screened porch so you can hardly say it hasn't got any space.

With out fish and tadpoles, they're all outside in our ponds, and were originally another neighbours who moved out, so their pots would have just been poured out, leaving all the tadpoles and fish to die, but seeing as my parents were planning to get a couple of ponds, we saved them as well. We've had several clutches of frog's eggs since then, as well as a fair few frog sightings, so they're definitely going well as well.

That just about sums it up. All our pets are basically either rescues or rejects, and they're all cared for to the best of our ability, so despite having birds, fish and frogs, which would probably be the most neglected or deprived of pets, they're all cared for well, so it's dependent on the owner. Absolutely nothing wrong with keeping pets, unless the owner neglects them.
