I was Copper class before the reset. Had a 56-63 win/loss record, #38 in my division, and was doing ok with learning the game. Had a win streak of 8 in a row, too. Most of those losses were early in my Copper career. Then the new set of 5 placement matches came around, and I qualified as Gold. Now, 6 losses in a row. Not "that was close" losses, either, it's "GETTING MY *** KICKED" losses. The kind of losses where you just want to slide under your bed and cry for a while. WTF? I have noticed differences between Copper and Gold (?) players. Gold don't early rush as often, but it still happens. Gold seem to be able to create immense amounts of troops and vehicles very early in the game too. How the HELL do they get so many mats so damn fast? I need moar training and practice.
Sounds like you aren't making enough workers. Each worker mining will pay for itself extremely rapidly, and then you will have much more income than before, allowing you to get as many units as possible. Remember you should have 2-3 workers per mineral patch, so that's about 25 altogether (counting the 6 on gas). You should hotkey your main buildings (that create workers) to a control group by selecting them then pressing ctrl-# (any number from 0-9). Then pressing that number brings up your main buildings immediately, so you can easily queue up a few more workers while also keeping watch over your army. You can do the same thing for your unit producing structures (barracks, etc) so that, with two number keys, you can control all your unit production without having to scroll the map finding your structures.
After losing most of the Silver class games, the damn thing busted me down to Bronze. I was #42 in Silver, and it threw me to Bronze just like that?
Well the reason why is twofold: 1) You don't only play against people in your league. If your rank in your division is low, you can get matched against players of the league below you, and if your rank in your division is high, you can get matched against players of the league above you. 2) If you have a low percentage of games won against players of the league below you, then you get moved into that league. Similarly for moving up a league, only in that case you would have a high percentage of games won.
I had a similar issue, I placed into Platinum which I'm pretty sure is too high for me as I was Bronze before. Haven't won any games since placing but they weren't curb stomps either.
Well, this is basically how it works. Your rank in your division isn't that important. If you win a few Silver games in a row, it will place you against Gold players. If you beat 1 or 2 Gold players, you get bumped up to Gold. If you're in Silver, and you lose a few games, it may put you up against a good Bronze player. If you lose that, boom you go to Bronze.
^ I'm sure it's not that harsh in league changes, or else we would have tons of people swapping leagues all the time.
Work on macro, forget micro for a few games and try to gather as much resources and pump as much units as you can and scout hard so you can pump the counters. Later on Micro will be more important, but for now make sure you always outnumber your enemy, then you can micro however much you want.
I've been losing a lot in Bronze, I'm ranked 60th in my division now. I just don't get it. Before patch 13 I had a steady win/loss rate, and I was slowly moving up the ranks. After patch 13, I've been screwing up games, not doing the best build order, or the enemy will rush me before I'm ready. It's driving me crazy. Last night I played another Terran player who always seemed to know where my nukes were aimed at. Sometimes he'd sensor sweep while the nuke was in the air and move his units. I wasted about 8 nuclear missiles on a patch of bare ground because by the time the damn thing landed he had moved all his forces!
go watch videos and strategies, or just read strats people post here instead of making this thread to whine
I don't think thats harsh, because it requires you to lose quite a lot in a row before it starts placing you against people from other leagues.
nuking an army is always incredibly risky. If you are playing against a terran player and you hear that terrible sound you instantly check your main army, secondary army if you have one, and then your bases. Anywhere you see a very scary red dot you move to either kill the ghost if you have detection available, or minimize the damage (moving workers/lifting off/canceling production in the blast area). Try hotkeying your ghost and dropping a nuke in the middle of a big battle, either on their base, or behind a bush next to their army. Nukes are very easily game winners, but they are tough to pull off.
My favorite use of nukes is when a Protoss player has about 78 Photon Cannons guarding his base. You don't have to put the red dot on the cannons, just have cannons in the blast radius of the nuke. Even if the dot is placed below a hill, and the cannons are on top of the hill. It'll still get them. That way a Ghost can stay out of Photon Cannon range. When the nuke drops, even on the edge of its blast radius, it'll take out several cannons. Then you can move in a little closer, repeat, move in, repeat, etc. When I build nukes I usually build 5-6 silos, so I don't waste too much time reloading.
