http://pc.ign.com/articles/878/878117p1.html Kinda makes you wonder what all these intelligence agencies do... I'm worried for this country.
If you were working for such a company and came across this image while perusing message boards commonly used by Islamic terror groups, etc, etc, I'm sure you'd be have a similar reaction. It's not as though whenever a potential threat like this is found, that team has to go searching through all screenshots of the latest games, so they're bound to make errors like this. Besides, it's more the media's fault than the intelligence agency's. They're so quick to jump on such a story that they didn't even wait for any official confirmation or anything.
First of all, SITE really isn't military intelligence, it is a private intelligence firm. Military intelligence would be more along the lines of the intelligence branches of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force and also to a slightly lesser degree the civilian agencies that fall under the Department of Defense which include the DIA, NSA, NGA, and NRO. Now the military service branch intelligence organizations are all responsible for collecting tactical intelligence in order to directly support the warfighter. They use a variety of different collection techniques including HUMINT, IMINT, and SIGINT. The DIA is basically the umbrella organization for the four military service intelligence organizations and also does intelligence collection mainly through HUMINT. It is one of the all-source intelligence agencies in the US, the other two being the CIA and the INR. The NSA is in charge of cryptology and other things related to SIGINT. The NGA does surveillance using satellites and other GEOINT things. The NRO does reconnaissance in order to warn the US of strategic threats or trouble anywhere in the world. They also support military operations through the use of satellite reconnaissance of the battlefield. There are other agencies in the US intelligence community but they are not military and are not under the DoD. Also, I'm guessing you didn't read what SITE had to say about that: http://siteintelgroup.org/bin/articles.cgi?ID=publications361708&Category=publications&Subcategory=0 Your worrying is a result of your ignorance to what the Intelligence Community actually does. And from the SITE article it looks like the media once again took something completely benign and tried to scare people with it.
Some British newspaper (Telegraph) didn't verify their sources and didn't check the original source before writing up some bull**** story about an actual story that wasn't even newsworthy. It's kind of like the Daily Show except the Telegraph actually thought they were telling the truth.
