So even though I'm only a sophomore in high school, I've put a lot of thought into my major recently. So far I've came up with Greek Mythology, Computer Science, Graphic Design, or World History. What do you guys think and what would be best to go into. I know you are gonna be like what ever you like most/most interested in, but I'm talking money wise. I'd like to hear what you have to say. And if you have any experience in any of these categories, tell me what you think about them. Please and thanks
What people should major in is quite simple.. You should do whatever is the easiest for you, whatever is fun and interesting to you!! That way it will never seem like work.
If you think that spending literally a third of the following 40-50 years of your life doing something you don't like just because It gives a lot of money in return .. is a good idea, well, you're wrong. Just do what you want to do, regardless of the salary. It's not about the money. It's about quality of life. So asking others for suggestions in such a topic is kind of pointless, imo.
Computer Science and Graphics Design on average are going to be the two highest paying majors of those four. TBH your question is flawed though because majors don't directly translate into jobs (and by extension how much you are going to get payed). If you are worried about getting payed, I would advise looking for a job that you think you will enjoy that pays well and figuring out which major best is best suited for that job.
Don't focus on money, because it's no way to live life. Try to optimise your quality of life, in ways other than through money. The key is finding a balance between what you're skilled at, and what you find enjoyment in. Graphic design is a vocational subject, but is something that a lot of people go into, so much so that there is a surplus of graphic designers in the world. Greek mythology and world history are fact based studies, which you can learn from wikipedia et al if you really wanted to. Computer science is theoretical. So in itself, there is no work that naturally follows from it. It would give you a grounding for higher education. Also remember that computers are changing all the time. Think about in what ways are you interested in computers, and if that will survive continuous and sometimes fundamental changes to the technology. In business, it's not always technical improvements, as half the time it's cutting corners to cut costs. Would you be comfortable with that? On the software side, programmers rarely have much say in how software is to be done. They do as they are told, with relatively little creative freedom. Schools and colleges don't teach you how to program either. They'll give you only the very basics, a few small examples, and a few small problems to tackle, and you kind of have to find your own way in putting it all together. So if you enjoy it, you could probably attempt that now and give yourself a head start.
Yeah, do what you want to do with your life. Thats why im training to be an assassin, its fun and pays well.
I'd def go for computer science if your after the money/ a job. At least in Australia computer science is in the top 10 paying degrees for graduates after leaving uni (think its about 45k a year) I'm probally going to major in accounting then jump up the financial rungs...still tossing up if i should also do a humanities/arts/science combined with it.
Greek mythology... why is that even on there? I'd say computer science since the computer industry is growing rapidly especially gaming and you seem to be into gaming. If you work your way up the company you can earn a lot of money.
On the other hand computer industry is one of those fields where you can break through even without the diploma if you are interested and good enough with programming.
