http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Search-Eng...Courts-Blow-To-FCC-Network-Neutrality-268689/ Kinda sucks that this didn't get passed. This could of been a first step toward tighter regulations on both ISP's and possibly even website hosting and domain hosts (im talking further down the line not for this particular ruling.) Also doesn't seem right that an ISP can control what applications their users can run.
it's pretty sad. point at china and go "omg, facist guys with the great firewall of china oppressing its users and censoring the internet." but it seems perfectly fine if it's corporations doing the oppressing here.
All for network neutrality here, it's part of the reason why I had to upgrade my hosting and why users were having trouble getting to the site. ISPs want to make sure mainstream users can get to FOX.com to vote for American Idol but don't give a crap about little old SC2F.org. :'( This article seems kind of inaccurate. It states that Comcast took the FCC to court when in fact the FCC took Comcast to court. Comcast lost but apparently has won on appeal. Hopefully it goes to a second appeal and maybe even the Supreme Court? W00t w00t! Or Google can just build out its own ISP service which I will gladly sign up for. 1 GB per second at roughly $45 month? I'm friggin' on board!
Its kind of sad that the US is 20 years behind on its communication infrastructure. A lot of other countries are having 100 MBS has standard connections while we pay 18 mbs for a "premium" internet connection.
No incentive for companies to upgrade their services when they're perfectly content using outdated, less costly equipment and charging the same, if not greater, price than ISPs do in other countries. Unless, of course, another company does it first to attract other consumers. Come on, Google. I'm willing to throw my money at you.
This is hppening in Australia too. And the government don't give a squat about it. I am with everyone else here. if Google can have a system that allows me to access every site even the ones I can't at the moment (this site for example I can't access at times) I'll totally swich over to the Google ISP. And if I can get better than the 512k up and down I get now for $50 I'll be dancing in the street.
