So I was surfing the web today, looking for some interesting astronomy read, when I came across something about the mysterious planet x/nibiru now able to be seen in Australian skies during sunset. I was curious, so I did a youtube search, and several videos showed another object in the sky. It was red and bright, too small to be the sun, or the moon, and too big to be Venus, Mars, or anything else we know. Lots of commenters acknowledged the authenticity of the vids, saying they have seen something similar with their very own eyes. I have yet to have seen it so I wanted to ask any of our Australian members or anyone else if they have seen this thing, and what do you make of it? Has anyone even heard about this? Surely astronomers world wide would be crapping stacks of pancakes by now if this is real, right?

Can only those in the southern hemisphere see it? I also looked at youtube and it seems some people associate Nibiru's passing with the ending of the world(as we know it, 2012, etc) since it supposedly passes close to earth every few thousand years or so, causing major changes on the earth's surface.

if it passes the earth every few thousand years, it has a really, really weird orbit, coming close to every other planet in the solar system.

actually higgie. There is the gravitic distortion of a tenth planet in the solar system(well, ninth, not counting pluto), so nibiru(or X) is kinda real. it's rumoured orbit however, does not seem possible.

@Higgs Boson - I would have to ask you to leave your narrow minded and biased skepticism somewhere else, for I had hoped that this would be an interesting and intelligent discussion not to be intruded by such partial opinions without any notion of inquiry... actually, if you have nothing better to bring to the table, don't say anything at all purdy please... MOVING ALONG!

@Eonmaster - that's what I want to know, I am going to pay extra close attention to tomorrow's sunset and see if I can find the object. In the Australian vids the object is more easily noticeable, but in some other vids I have seen it is alot smaller, and harder to notice when it seems to be next to the sun. Then there is this one vid of it in the south pole where it is out in plain view. According to some researchers it passes the earth approximately every 3600 years, and in the time span it is closest to earth the gravitational effects of nibiru causes great catastrophes. There is historical evidence in ancient Egypt's equivalent of the bible of nibiru's passing and the destruction it caused. And If you really want to sink your teeth into some nibiru crazyness, check out Zecharia Sitchin's research on ancient Sumerian tablets depicting tales of extraterrestrial beings who came from nibiru and created the human race by mixing their genes with indigenous apes for the purpose of mining gold for them that apparently was used to repair nibiru's damaged atmosphere.... but that is a WHOOOLE other discussion!

@ijffdrie - There's mathematical evidence of Nibiru or a 10th (or 9th) planet's existence that I read, wish I could remember how it goes lol.

ijffdrie: Of course we know there are plenty of small planets out there. That's why we dropped pluto out of planetary classification so we don't have to rewrite text books every year. But there is no such thing as planet Nibiru which orbits straight through the middle of our solar system.

Rebel Head: If you have proper evidence to the contrary talk to NASA and win a nobel prize, don't waste your time here.

Havn't even heard about it apparently being in our skys and i live in Australia.

I'm with Higgs 110% on this one!

I thought that whole 'random gravitational' thing pull was decided to be caused by dark matter throughout the universe. And so excluding the 9th/10th planet as a reason for it.

What is there to know, that isn't clearly already
I just wanted to bring up how it goes both ways here.

Seems you want only people in the thread that agree with your interest, as well add to that topic to further prove it is something worth knowing...yet as soon as some one comes in to dismisses it, you call them out as though it's NOT acceptable to have anyone not care about your topic, or goodness forbid disagree.

I like subjects being reasonably open to both sides, so I don't buy into it with out a counter argument. Higgs brings up a comment that it may not have any merit to the subject being credible of it's title(lacking value of importance) - If someone posts a way to disprove him, then someone else is open to dispute that proof and so forth...hence you get a topic not one sided.

I don't know if you've noticed but higgs does that will all of the threads that are at least minutely questionable. All I can say is:

I'll quote Christopher Hitchens on this one: "What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof."

Does this mean that people shouldn't investigate or consider an idea, based on the possibility of there being something valuable and important to gain from such an endeavor?

And if people can consider an idea, then may they do so collaboratively? Such as on an internet message board?

@RationalThought - He didn't provide any counter arguement, he just said that it was new age nonsense... well what the hell is new age nonsense? I asked if anyone could tell me what the object in the sky is that some have been talking about, if it was a well constructed hoax or if it had any merit, but new age nonsense isn't very informative to any of us who have seen or heard about the thing. My fault for even responding to his worthless comment, I should have just ignored the brainwashed zombie.

I have faith in science, too. But I also realize that even if our scientists already know: They won't tell us! To prevent panic. They will tell us when the plan for survival gets in motion. Which really at this point means that the Pentagon or better the president, may already know that our planet goes to hell. And we just sit here and guess. However, this if to happen, is not an apocalypse, but rather a great, astronomic disaster, we still may survive.

Yes of course because we all know how easy it is to stop all people from spotting an object of the size of an entire planet approaching earth. Especially when even amateur astronomers can easily spot relatively small asteroids with their inexpensive equipment.
This is not the Manhattan project and scientists are not the CIA nor are they all under the U.S. jurastiction you cannot keep such a thing a secret.

Well, OK, that things is out there. I didn't say it is not. But I think scientists could already calculate whether it will hit us or not. Yet as far as I know, there is no official statement that it won't hit us or will hit us. Which kinda almost could mean because all that official silence, that it will hit us. However, I was just speculating.

I don't trust Nancy Lieder. She said that Hale-Bopp isn't real, yet it came. So this whole prediction of the end of the world, is just a mess. Again, I don't like the silence of well respected scientists and government agents. Maybe they just think that one with a brain won't believe anyways, so don't need to break the silence and say anything.

It could be a hoax and probably is, I do agree with Higgs on what he just said, I was more thrown off by alot of people saying they have seen the same thing these vids were showing so I was curious. The existence of Nibiru however might have truth to it, you can see the evidence in our history of at least an event that triggered great calamity. Whether it is another planet in close proximity to ours or something else, writings in history have detailed an event that destroyed nearly all of civilization. The Kolbrin Bible warns us of the "Destroyer" who's passing in the heaven sky will unleash disaster on a massive scale, and also some who have spent decades researching and translating tablets from ancient sumeria (the oldest known civilization that is modern day Iraq) have discovered similar tales, and even more remarkably the beings they worshipped as Gods were said to have come from this planet Nibiru. It is all interesting stuff.
