I am trying to make up my mind on the healtchare reform that Obama finally pushed through and I think I am still lacking the necessary information to judge it to any reasonable point of accuracy. I know that it is still far away from being the sort of universal healthcare that we are used to in Europe but from what I've read it is actually very financially efficient. What I don't know is how exactly does it affect the people themselves. Is there anyone from the U.S. who follows this sort of stuff and is aware what exact benefits and drawbacks does this bring to you personally? Please no Obama is a nazi-communist socialist nonsense I am genuinely here to learn.
I dont believe any one knows what will truely happen at this point and the paper work for the bill is still going through some changes.
Supposedly the biggest change is that in 2011 insurance companies can no longer deny policy holders because of an existing condition. This doesn't mean that they have to cover that existing condition, just that they can't say "nope, you can't have health insurance, bye!"
I think this site did a good job of emphasizing the positive aspects of the bill http://www.dosomething.org/news/health-care-reform-11-facts-new-plan I worse parts are how insurances companies are finding loops through certain phrasing so that they can deny insurance to children with pre-existing conditions. Also, all the money going exactly where it was before (the major insurance companies, not sure how they decided which ones though). And so, making the well-being of people still a business.
i honestly have no idea. you americans call it "Socializing" health care, but it's still very far behind countries that actually have universal health care. from what i've heard, it's more like just putting a few extra restrictions on insurance companies so it's a bit harder for them to reap in profits by screwing over the general population. it's still more corporatocracy than socialism. HOLY **** it used to be legal to drop health coverage when their clients got sick? i can't believe 100% of all americans aren't behind this bill for that alone.
