For some reason every strategy I ever tried fails.

I've tried MMM which get owned by siege tanks and those d*mn banshees, and when I use scan the cowards flee.

Ghosts does not work, mass banshees + vikings don't work.
I've tried proxy barracks which also failed every time I've tried it
Only one strat has succeeded several times and thats massing BC's

To be precise, take 2 expansions wall them off and build 20-30 turrets with siege tanks all around it.
Meanwhile build 5 starports and start building BC's.
By the time I have 15 BC's all lvl 3 for both weapons and armor with Yamato then I finally stand a chance, all other strats fail big time.

Here's an example, I really don''t see why it fails, (except from the fact that I should have been building BC from the beginning instead of wasting time with MM and Ravens)

This is only the Bronze league but it seems that even here a little mistake or tiny delay will be severly punished.
But still I like to learn this game (and at least reach the silver lague)

One addition: about the last minute , using shift i thought it was possible to focus fire and select several targets, but for some reason the remaining BC's just fire at the vikings at random and do not focus, why not?

    1) try, try again
    2) HOW DOES VIKING/BANSHEES NOT WORK?!
    3) no. only little mistakes in warfare will really cost u in bronze i think.
    4) cmon man stop massing mcs and start playing!
    5) get some ravens, build some turrets to protect against banshees.
    6) get some banshees to pwn siege tanks.
    7) get bcs mid/late game.

So i watched the video Key things i noticing in early game play.
    1) You do not have enough scv's you need more the key to knowing if you should build an scv is this if you are not building a scv build an scv ( if you set cc to ctrl 4 press 4 s every 15 or so seconds when you hear the sound)
    2) despite the fact that you have nowhere near enough scv you money still piles up, this is bad
    3) dont queue units
    4) read this http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21254 ( yes im plugging my own thread yes im ok with this lol)

basically the strats are not the problem the problem is in the execution which will get better over time and winning isnt everything learning is. so for now pick a strat such as the MMM and say i will build 2 rax one reactor and one tech lab then get 2 medivacs building marine marauder constantly ( get sheild and stim and concussive shell) and also scvs constantly then when you have 2 medivacs push ( or something like that) but when those two medivacs are done you must push and just see if you cant get more marines and marauders each time till you have timeing down, and once you do then you can start expanding your strategic ideas, and if you want to play a game or two vs what ever race you want im Toochaos 983 on Us sever ( if you not US cant help you with that one) Hope this helps man i know it can be frustrating but it gets better.

as for the shift click it does work it looks like you may have misclicked and so that they moved rather than attacked also the reason that failed is because he had vikings with 3 3 ups and thors both of which kill BC vikings are meant to kill BC so they did.

also take a look at this replay ( this is me vs a very easy computer so its not about micro or real game but about perfection( though this is far from it i think its pretty good) this is what macro looks like. hopefully with the idea of macro in mind you may be able to do better

In bronze league, really you shouldn't even be thinking about which unit compositions work. The way you win games is just:

    1. Constantly make SCVs
    2. Make 3-4 barracks/factories/starports for each base you have
    3. Constantly make units out of them
    4. Attack-move enemy base with everything

You will be amazed at how many games you win at the 6 minute mark just because you have way, WAY more stuff than any opponent who is overly focused about getting the "right" units.

Only once you've mastered this good macro should you start thinking about unit compositions.

Yeah, I'm gonna agree with Rush on this one. People in bronze will get steam rolled by someone in that league if they have the skills of macro on their side. It's not till you get to higher leagues that you really need to worry about what to do when something or other happen.

Well, economy was the base of all my trouble.
I've tried it again but this time constantly making SCV's and expanding early , And It worked I was able to win because I could keep unit production running (instead of the annoying voice: not enough minerals, all the time)

Any unit composition will fail if the other player has triple amount of money.
But winning within 6 minutes does not seem very likely. (or I should try to build a barracks in enemy base and hope he doesn't notice it in time.)

But now I can start to work on strategy and defense properly. (without being outnumbered all the time)

    thanks for the info.

You should really just forcus on macro man. If you spend your bronze and silver ranks on macro, just getting money and pumping out mad amounts of units you'll probably be solid in it like it were second nature in the upper leagues bro. Good luck.

    Ey couple more tips.
Just going through the game from start to finish pointing stuff out I see along the way.

If you're not gonna go for any early agression you shouldn't build your first depot at 8. If you build it right as 9's about to finish you'll not really get supply capped and you'll have a little bit more minerals.
Because you built a depot at 8 and a refinery at 9 it takes a while for you to build a barracks. Look at that scv who's building your depot. He's just standing there for quite a while.

Your wall off is also not so good. You've gotta build that first depot one more square to the right. That's why that first marine got into your base. Scv is idle after building second depot.

You make your second refinery at 13 which is really really early. You should make one, put 3 scvs in it then get your orbital command faster. Gas is an important resource but you're gonna be mineral starved with 2 refineries that early on.

When you lift off your rax to make a tech lab you built it at the wrong spot. There's still a gap in your wall. You then send an scv to the tower which is really good. I like that
You queue up a marauder and 2 reapers which is a bad thing. Then you build an engineering bay but don't really do anything with it.

Seems you just built it to fend off banshees but you built your first turret at 8:25 into the game. If you went mass marine/marauder you could've already been at 60 food and just overrun your opponent before he even has a chance to make banshees.
Your orbital command is really high on energy. You should really use the mules more. You also rallied your command center to one of your refineries so it's really oversaturated.

when you're building something with your scvs if you click on the minerals they will return to mining after that.

Your buildings and units spend a lot of time standing around doing nothing. You make nitro packs right away when you get your tech lab on your reactor and 2 reapers but don't really use em until several minutes later.

You build a second factory then a starport but you don't have the resources to support it. You should always be making units from your structures, then build more structures when you have spare money.

You have 3/4 scvs sitting idle a lot of the time, and just saw you used the calldown supply ability. Should use mules more. Highest I've seen was 7 idle scvs
You're also making a raven. Seems to me like you're way to afraid of banshees so you're saving your orbital energy building turrets and ravens just in case he makes one unit.
You should also try to retake the watch towers. And you did see he was making an expansion If you're not making one of your own you don't want to just let him expand.

When you go attack you just run past the watchtower. He can see your entire army from there.

You still haven't researched stimpack, concussive shells or weapons/armour upgrade from your engineering bay.

Overall I think you're too passive, trying to defend from banshees. If you had skipped the engineering bay and double refinery at the start, built more scvs and used your mules you could've had an expansion up ages ago.
You need to expand more, attack more and scout more.

Watch this video, shows you how to do the 3 barracks build. Should get you into gold/platinum if you pull it off well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWItSrXKwzw

    @shoe,

I've tried this strategy but it wasn't enough to win in 7 minutes.

So I kept building barracks (unti I had 8) and finally managed to overwhelm the enemy (but it still took 30 minutes)
Although it worked, I think there might be a more effective way to handle this.

very nicely done a few things when you first attacked you had 400 min at that time throw down a command center. each time you attack each attack should be better somehow than the last. you have some medivacs and more marines or you have some seiged tanks ect. and third if you see a turtling protoss like that expand and expect voids, lower level players believe them to be the most awsome power in the universe, i still see people trying it.

Looks like it's mostly Macro which is keeping you out of the higher leagues.

BC's work for you because they cost so much you can actually spend all your minerals/gas!

More SCVs and build more army. If you have to build a few extra barracks/factory to get it done, then that's what it takes. If your minerals ever gets above 500, either expand or build another 2 barracks.

It's getting better but even with ok macro and a slightly better economy I still get completely wiped off the map sometimes.

In this replay my I nuked my opponents main army but still he got a new army In a matter of minutes while he had only 2 barracks.

I thinks his banshees were the biggest problem and the moment there were taken out it was too late to react agaist the rest of this army.

I worked out a somewhat solid stragety

Send Marines and Maruaders in to the front and banshees to the back.

but this one dude had one weird stragety.check replay

Interesting, I had a similar problem to yours, but for me only MMM seem to work, but I forced myself to try new strategies, and now I can harass dropping rines, using reapers, I have added to my MMM ball thors, from time to time I use Ravens to harass. I am still learning, yet it has proven useful, it took me from rank 53 to rank 8 in my bronze league 1v1, and I got promoted to silver in 2v2.

For bronze players its easy to say something doesn't work when you don't have the APM needed for proper scouting and map control.

Once you just getting fast you will learn how to scout and hot to make exact counters, also use small groups of units to attack. Youd be amazed how much you can destroy or throw other players off with proper control.

Also, in regard for people to Play T, don't wall off, your game will improve ten fold when your not always on the defense early game.

People will waste many units early game when you invite them into your base, you just need to have units waiting with proper control.

first, it's good to see that you want to get better. don't get discouraged. if you have the will (which it seems you do) then it's just a matter of time till you reach your goal of silver.

i think besides specific strategies (like hellion harass, banshee harass, MMM push etc) you should take a look at your mechanics. i've played with bronze players, and i see a lot of times (not all the time) that they have mechanics issues that they need to address. for example, knowing when an opportunity exists, not attacking with a concave, attacking at a choke, feeding/throwing units away, accumulating too much cash etc.

i'm most likely going to make some tutorial vids for the bronze folks in the near future. i like talking about SC2 and i want to help the bronze guys out.
