Kapeselus: Quote: There will definitely be "chat channels" coming in one of the patches after the release. The system will be based around groups, where you will be able to join public channels that are based around your interests, which can be virtually anything. Also the system will include private chat channels (in plans for release in the first few months after the release), where you will be able to meet with your friends. As for identifiers they are returning for the second phase of the beta. The previous system did not work as intended to some degree and based on feedback received the developers decided to implement a variation of this, which is going to attach character codes. These will be three digit numbers added to your nickname and they will be seen in the UI screens. Thanks to this you will be able to add friends manually, just like previously with identifiers. On top of that you can still add friends using all other methods (using the score screen or RealID). I'll pause with that. Zhydaris: Quote: The number will be automatically generated. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to see this code everywhere, but only on certain screens. (i.e. it won't get in the way and it won't ruin the "look" of your nickname, don't worry! ) http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=25399622869 Dont know if this is already posted
I REALLY don't like the nickname thing. I want them to be unique I dont want to join a game and see JimRaynor in every single freakin game..
Would you rather see: Jim.Raynor Jim-Raynor -JimRaynor- `JimRaynor xXJimRaynorXx [[JimRaynor]] [~~JiMrAyNoR
I just thinks there is one big problem. Taking names from famous people. It is both a problem if all are unique. Whitera, TLO, Idra and people like that will probably not be the first to recieve the game, so it is possible for unknown people to take their names, and they will suddenly be forced to take another variation. But if none are unique, you will never know if it really is husky you are fighting against, or just some kind of fanboy stealing it. The problem has come due to the size of the regions. (you will never see this problem in WoW where the servers is in the hundreds instead of about 5 regions) There is many pros and cons, but i think the original system, (identifier and name is together unique) but lets see how the three digit code works out.
I agree, that would be bad. Huh? No... thats the point of this system. You can use whatever name you likr, rvrn if some one else has it. But there is a distinction of the 3 digit code rather than your email address. I ****ing love Husky... and I've seen the vid of him discussing a fraud. If Husky really wanted to protect his reputation he could make his 3 digit code public. If not, then if your a fan of his... you'll know a fake douchebag when you see one. WTF? You've never had a single fun pop culture reference name that wasn't taken? BloodHawk is an obscure, yet well documented SC referenced. I never got to be BloodHawk... only BloodHawk090. If the 090 were instead a tracking number rather than part of my chatroom name; I'd be so happy. It's the same ****ing thing... but easier and more private.
Yes I rather see different variations of JimRaynor then everyone having JimRaynor. Or I wouldnt want to see 3000 Idra's
Thank god! I wont have to give away my email to b.net strangers and they wont have to give theirs to add them to my friends list anymore! I probably would've played as a loner if I had to give my email away, just adding my sister was a pain since we both had to double check that we were adding each other's email addresses correctly. EDIT: if they are using only numbers in the code, doesnt that mean there can only be 999 unique different combinations? So, I'm assuming that this identifier will not be unique per account due to the inevitable millions that will play sc2.
You are forgetting about realms. For example, I recently dusted off WC3 to play some dota, and here is the first sentence in my registration e-mail: This is a confirmation e-mail letting you know that the Battle.net account KHaYMaN.Lordaeron has registered this e-mail address. So make that 3,996 different combinations for the same game "name" I don't know why you think that will present a problem though. If no more identifiers are available for that name, you simply have to make your game name something else.
i didnt want to make a new thread for this, but can anyone else open sc2 beta?? my laucher opens up..and tahts it. Could this mean they are close to opening the beta again??
