Hey all Well i was lucky to get an invite to beta from my friend a couple of days ago. I think i've totaled about 20 games so far, and i had 2 wins... I don't seem to improve at ALL... It's like.. the part of the brain that should handle RTS games doesnt exist in my head. I don't know what im doing wrong... i can't see what i'm doing wrong, and even looking at the damn replays, i'm still clueless. Knowing which tactic counters which tactic is far from second nature to me. If i spy on my opponent, and figure out "ohhh, so he builds them walker thingies that shoot lasers", im still just sticking to a game plan or building order i've seen on the net somewhere. Im completely lost and have no general idea what to do. Just right now, i got RAPED by someone who claimed he always loses. It's like... i still don't even get the basics. I've seen a lot of building orders.. blocking the choke, building reavers for herassment, building marauders for pwnage. But it seems whatever i try, the enemy already has the perfect counter-measure for that, ready at hand. On top of that i suffer from EXTREME tunnel vision... When i do something... like fight, at a certain point on my map, i forget to do anything else. I dont expand, tech or build new units... Only when the fight is over and all my units have been wasted i suddenly realise "Ohhhh, i have a base... right." You know the guy doing those "I suck at starcraft 2" videos? He would laugh at me. Where do i go from here? How do i get out of this damn situation? Will this eventually go away after i have already lost every ounce of self-esteem there is? Do i really have to go through all of this ***-handing? Btw, i play Terrans if you haven't guessed. Anyone got any useful info? And please don't tell me to search, because all the info out there is pretty overwhelming, and most of it covers advanced tactics which i don't even understand.
NOOOOOB!!! Just kidding Even if you're in the same league, you're probably playing people who've been playing StarCraft and other RTS for many years. There's not much we can do to help you other than build orders and general strategies. RTS need practice. If you want help for this, check the other topics. We've already helped many people like you.
Look on the bright side at least you are in the beta, the simple answer to your question is you need to practice, eventually you will improve.
haha, i see what you did there.. but yeah, replay yourself and see what you did wrong. Since you are terran, you probably go mass m&m which is realy flexible, but you would need other units that would counter the stalkers. Mass banshees are great agaisnt stalkers in the numbers as stalkers aren't the strongest anti-air.
Tunnel vision?? I had that too 2 years ago in Starcraft. To improve that, I kept a timer, every 5-10 seconds switch back to your base to make sure production is continuing. At the beginning of every match, HOTKEY (CTRL + 1/2/3/4) all your production buildings (CC, barracks, and a few workers), and build while scouting. Of course, it was VERY hard for me as well, but continue and you will eventually get results. Anyways, marauders > collosus, baneling, roaches, so get them when you see the big tall walker thingys. If you suck, try building all the way to starport, then use the dropship and drop at their main/expansion. It never fails. In a last ditch-attempt, give the beta key to some else! Nah just kidding.
StarCraft 2 is a hard game, the macro is intensive and I've never felt overwhelmed by a game before. The amount of attention you need to spend for SC2 is far greater than SC1 or WC3 but that's my opinion. I think that's a GOOD thing because with more games you will get a little better and when the game is released you will have enough experience to compete with people equal to your skill.
@ Exardious, First, watch some replays. If you're playing Terran check out my stream. If you're playing Zerg check out FFenix's. If you're playing Protoss you can check out Muncie's or LordKerwyn's or Seradin's. Then you need to practice, practice, practice. Find a standard build order that will get you through the first two minutes of the game. That should put you off on the right foot and give you a chance. Third, never stop building workers, EVER! You should always be building Probes, SCVs, or Drones. This is the biggest mistake newer players make and if you're producing enough your play will improve dramatically. Think you have too many workers? YOU STILL NEED MORE!!! Lastly, you can add me on Battle.net and if I have some time I can toss you a few lessons. My tag is meisterx.sciiforum
since you play terran I'd suggest checking out jon's recent article here about how to play terran. It should give you a good guide line to go by to start out. http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/view.php?pg=article-aterransguide Also take jon up on his offer to get a couple lessons, and watch his stream if you're not playing at the time. He's probably the best terran player you'll find on our site. And like everyone else said, practice makes perfect. and on a side note, muncie doesn't play protoss. he plays random, so you never know what you'll get if you watch him.
I went by that rule for a long time, but accidentally took it to its logical extreme last week- a long game where I somehow managed to use 75 supply with SCVs. I ended up sending my workers in with my army during the final push
hehe you just have to watch more pro replays on youtube to learn build order u need better macro for sure
