Ok, I normaly try to a get a few bases spread across the map and get my oppoment to panic turtle.... Thing is that sometimes the other side get up a small to medium air force up and start sytematicaly ripping my weak outter bases apart. Void rays are the normal offenders, but I seen a few terran players do it with banshies or vikings. Anyone know any good counters?
Well if you can't properly protect your expansions maybe you reconsider when you expand. Same theories apply to business, control and protect your infrastructure before you go out and expand yourself too thin.
A couple of spore towers in your furthest expos will usually persuade him from attacking with a small airfleet. If he's got a bigger one you might want to consider building a small force of corruptors for anti-air duties. A few hydras + the queen at each expo can work as well. Remember to distribute your overlords so you get an early warning about any aerial attack.
A single spore crawler and 1-2 hydralisks should stop the harassment of a small air force. With a larger air force, if they attack an expansion, just immediately attack one of his expansions while also sending a drone to start your expansion somewhere else (or even start two more expansions). Sure the air force can continue trying to destroy your outer expansions, but you can keep canceling and delay him all day while your ground army wrecks his base.
RushSecond knows whats up...I'd also say that 2 queens at an expansion with some spore crawlers also works too (plus you get the added benefit of more Queen eneregy, i.e larvae, creep tumors, and healing). Pheonixes wreck queens and are a huge pain though, but 2 queens easily puts off an early void ray or 2 (banshee's...not so much, but vikings are easily put off by queens).
Make sure to creep everything together too, it will be harder with your spread-base strategy (you may want to reconsider the traditional style where you expand wherever is closest.) Once everything is creeped together, you can get more hydralisks and less corruptors, which often times is better for you. That is just because corruptors, though great anti-air, can't attack ground and will really only contain the air-heavy army, hydralisks will just end the game faster.
Put a Nydus Worm in every base, put all your queens in a control group, put them all in the Nydus Network. When you need to use a queen (say inject larve), just select the worm next to the hatchery and unlod one to use it, then send it back in. When one of your bases is attacked by air, use the nydus worm of that base and unload all of your queens and use them to defend. Build a couple of spore crawlers at your minerals lines, one on each end, to buy yourself time before all your queens get there.
