Hey guys, just got the beta here and I'm attempting to set up a simple strat to get started on 2's with a friend, who's a new player but prefers Protoss. So I've been focusing on my Terran and Zerg playing, and have some questions. 1. Which do you think may be a better combo, PT or PZ? 2. Depending on choice above, any suggestions on strats or planning? Where to start, what he should focus on as well as me? Thanks for any help.
I think that you should always have a zerg on your team in 2v2 but that's just IMO. The zerg player allows for harrassment on the protoss player as zealots arent out early enough if you go for an early pool then expand and can also defend you from zerglings if he is zerg also zerg in 2v2 can expand easily and alot meaning they can soak up lots of minerals from that. Plus zerg are very powerful late game and so since in 2v2 they get pretty late into a game normally you can get the most outta them, though there is nothing wrong with terrain and protoss as you can have powerful rushes with those zealots and marines if you wanted
I'd say PT is the strongest. You can just sit back and macro hardcore. I play PZ though and it has some good options. Usually we do a 4 warp gate / roach timing attack. Sometime after the attack we'll both expand if necessary, and continue from there. PZ v PP -- 4 warp gate / roach, 2-3 gate zealots / roach [zealot/sentry/roach] PZ v PT -- 4 warp gate / roach [zealot/sentry/roach] PZ v PZ -- 4 warp gate / roach, 2-3 gate zealots / roach [zealot/sentry/roach] PZ v TT -- 4 warp gate / 2hatch spire [stalker/sentry/zergling/muta] PZ v TZ -- 4 warp gate / roach [zealot/sentry/roach] PZ v ZZ -- 2-3 gate zealots / roach, 4 warp gate / roach [zealot/stalker/sentry/roach] When deciding whether to tech right away or do a 2-3 gateway zealot build first, mostly consider the map. If there are no small ramps then it's a very good option for rushing. If there are ramps you have to be careful because if they successfully defend it could mean a world of pain if protoss didn't tech up fast enough to stop possible void rays, or you might simply get out macroed if you waste your units. After expansion phase you play much like it was a 1v1...get the proper tech and mass up, expand when you can, etc. If your opponents try to expand or do anything dumb you can kill them fast. If they play it safe don't wear yourself out on them...PZ with lost momentum is dead.
I prefer PZ but that's because I can (usually) rely on the Protoss player to provide our anti-air, allowing me to focus on ground domination with speed/banelings/roaches. Observers are also pretty sweet for coordinating flanking traps.
What about PT, me spamming marines and getting medi's when available? Anybody do this? And if you do what else should i do to compliment that?
