I'm just curious....do other countries, like in Europe and such, have a ghetto? Not like the place where the working class folk live or those who are a bit lower down. I mean like a straight up, LA/NY/Chicago type ghetto.

Its a question that I've been wondering about for a while. I've been to Europe, but I didn't explore it quite as much as I wanted to.

I think you're referring to "Da Hood," right?

I'm curious too, Ive been to Canada and seen nothing similar. Then again, places like that are usually hidden since they aren't very tourist friendly.

P.S Hawaii has one, been to it.

I thought Paris also had some nasty places. Also, in Great-Brittain they have lots of places infested with gangs and stuff. Saw a documentary about that issue a couple of weeks ago.

I wouldn't know. I am originally from Chile. Lots of poor people and lousy distribution of wealth. Sweden by comparison is rich everywhere.

Then again I understand why economists talk about relative poverty. Lots of people here consider themselves miserable even though they have material wealth that would impress anyone in Chile.

Summa sumarum, self-percieved wealth is more important than real one. It's funny how the world ends up vindicating good old common sense.

In england there certainly are places of.... Object ghetto-nes, it would be silly to deny that even walking through some parts of Britain you're 70% likely to get mugged.

    Unless you're Bas Rutten..

So is it just like America and Britain (and possibly Australia) phenomenon then?

And as a side question, is that why European rap and hip hop is no good?

The hip hop you see on tv is recorded in shiny studios covered with gold and written by men with to much metal in their mouth.

But seriously: hip hop from France always sounds so cool. No way for me to know what they actually say, but it sounds good. Uugh, and the topic is thrown out of the window again.

And all EU hip hop sounds the same. What big issues do they even sing about anyway? If Europeans have a problem, more than like the US had that same problem for a while now (i.e illegal immigration).

Anyway, back to the subject at hand, any European hoods?

Well, I've been to Latin America (at least Central America), family lives there, and I know that they are there.

I'm more just curious if European cities have them. For some reason, I have a hard time believing that there are some in Berlin. I know Spain has a growing gang problem too, mostly Latin Kings, but that's all I really know.

hahahaha Sueco. Perfectly placed rage post.

I'm going all over Europe in about 3 weeks for about a month, I'll maybe try to remember to post about getting mugged in a ghetto if that happens.

You should totally check out La Caution. They have a song about mint tea that is cunning metaphor for racism ;)

Anyways, I think that larger cities would have them, just like the US. Obviously London's been mentioned, but I know there's places in Munich you don't want to be after dark, and there's places in Paris you don't want to be at all. Ever.

I think that one Spanish city (I think it begins with a P? Pompi?) also has a lot of crime comparatively.

Is European hip hop all serious though? No type of music is fun if it's serious ALL the time. On occasion you need a song for fun. That's how Eminem promotes his albums. Make one silly single and then put all the serious songs the majority of the album.

I heard somewhere that Marseilles is a pretty dangerous place to go around at night. I think the place you're talking about Fenix is Pamplona. Is that it?

I like French hip hop, But I'm not a fan of British Hip Hop because only few are good in England, I don't like Dizzee Racsal much but I like his rap on Arctic Monkeys B side of Brian Storm called Temptations greets you like your naughty friend. I'm more into Post Punk like Arctic Monkeys and Neo Psych like The Coral.

As for Ghetto, there's a few in KL but they reside in Low Cost Apartment like The Project as the American say it and Rumah Setinggan(I don't know how to explain or translation in english). Mostly the gang are Mat Rempit (or Nasty Bikers in english) and Skin Head culture.
