Fired and put in jail, most certainly.

Hm, usually I am glad for provokative opinions and ideas but I find this simply dumb attempt to attract attention. Jail? Pfff no not really but definetly deserves to get fired.

well, the article said the cartoon wasn't meant to be racist.

I'd say fired at most, possibly just a pay dedution.

I'm wondering how that cartoon got approved in the first place.

Of course it's racist! As a matter of fact, those people who let it go through should be fired aswell. And I doubt firing them would do anything to change their ways, you're not gonna get rid of racism until you actually punish people for it.

Also, the cartoonist's name is Sean Delonas, and according to the article, this isn't the first time he's done a controversial cartoon, as he's also done cartoons depicting Muslims as terrorists.

I doubt anything will happen to him, as other who work for the NY Post don't see it as racial either.

I don't think it's racism at all. I think it's just people over reacting. There was a monkey shot to death that went on a rampage so that's where the monkey came from. As for the stimulus package there is many people who dislike it so they were capitalizing on it, besides if you pay attention it was a white guy who wrote it and presented it to Obama. I haven't read the bbc article I will admit, but I feel I don't need to as there as I have already read about it on cnn and yahoo news. Feel free to hate me for what I say but this is just my honest opinion.

The only way I can see this as not racist is if the writer intended to see Obama's idea for the stimulous bill no better thought out then that of a monkey.

Its the fact that Obama is half black and monkey is a common reference during a racist comment to relate black people to that raises the issue. He could have chosen any other animal. I think the intent to use a monkey was his intent to make an in-direct racist mark.

Bralbers, first you act like a homophobe, and now you're trying to be an apologist for a rather clear case of racism. First of all, the man has a history of making racist cartoons. Then, a monkey? is this the first time we see this racist connection? There is NO way he just randomly chose a monkey, he is clearly a racist and should be punished severely. It also reminds me of that recent incident when an unarmed black man was shot to death by cops.

You mean the groom who was driving from or to his bachelor party and 3 white cops shot him dead. The one cop even emptied the clip.. reloaded and emptied another on this guy, who was unarmed and did nothing wrong. The cops werent even fired.

I haven't heard about that, I meant something else. But then, such things happen very, very often.

i am not entirely sure if this is meant as racism, though i think the writer should have thinked better before drawing this
Obama is widely known as the first black president of america (technically he is the second if the one drop rule applies) and the writer obviously thought of the bill as something negative, and he heard about the shot monkey, so he combined them, with a negative portration of a black person, being a monkey, getting shot

It is dumb, but not racism per se

It doesnt matter if the author meant one way or another way, at the end of the day the outcome was very poor and he has to take responsibility for what he did.

I'n case you didn't know, Obama is not considered black, he's Middle Eastern. He's only a small percentage black(<10%), but about 30% Middle East.

So you can't really call him an African American since more of his ancestry comes from the Middle East, not Africa.

    Please explain (anyone):

Portraying Obama as a monkey in a comic is racist.
Portraying Bush as a monkey in a comic is not racist.

because aparenty you can say whatever you want about white people, but the moment you talk about a non-white person, it's racist.

Lets call it society's double standard.
