Why doesnt everyone reccomend a couple of titles we have played, and give good reason why we liked them? Maybe well go and try them PS: Modern games, not super mario. I liked: Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: An action oriented RPG. Simple to get used to the controls, lovely storyline, immense universe to explore, great graphics, teamwork, in depht-character developing, amazing dielogue options, and its anything but linear: there is a lot of freedom in what to do, when and how... Its got almost all of it. Unfortunately it works better for people who has seen the movies, tho we almost all have. Halo (1, 2 and 3): First person shooter. Probably you have all played it yet. If you havn't dont be a fool. I dont know how I was capable of ignoring this title for so long (probably cos i was never a console guy, even less the X box type). Its fast paced, realistic, enemie's AI is awesome, its got a lot of vehicles to handle... and the characters and the story are great (even the enemies are cool). The problem? Once you learned how to properly use a vehicle it was already time to toss it. Thankfully halo 2 and 3 are almost the same, so the player already has the practice from the older titles. Lineage II: Like RPGs and huge enviroments? The graphic is a thousand times better (And less cartoonish) than WC3. The universe is always growing. Clan gameplay is essential and fun. Music is great. It has a couple of drawbacks tho: No character depht. No story depht. Hi class level items can be impossible to get for a single player. Well, its an RPG, cant ask much on that aspects. Its also a slow game, but it can get addictive. Belive me. Meachwarrior series: Robot (american style, not jap mechas) combat in a future galaxy. I reccomend mercenaries. Its got customization, two different paths to take (pity the divergence is on late game), recruitment, teamplay, improvement, good graphics (getting a bit outdated). Battles can be really hot and exciting. Its just the only "armor" game I like. Half Life 2: Orwellian post apocalyptic shooter. Graphic is good, characters are fun. The rythm is great, and levels can be quite different from one another, making it something you wont get bored of too fast. The story develops a lot during the game. Problems? Its too much linear (tho this helps the feeling that youre not missing anything). There are two (expensive) expansions. Portal: Trapped in something like "The Cube" movies. Something new: a FPS brain teaser. Awesome, tho quite short (beat it in a day). Simple story, but creepy. Really creepy. Blitzkrieg: Strategy WWII game. You have to do with what you are given at the start of the missions. Cool for learning about the tanks and all that. Missions can be borung since enemies seldomly counter-attack. Their attacks are all scripted, or are things like artillery and bomber response to your own artillery and troops. The enemy AI sucks, but seing the tanks facing eachother and slowly turning their turrets to shoot while you pray that they hit the target and are not hit can be quite exciting. Enervating actually. So, any PC games you recomend?
Age of Empires 2 &3: Great empire building games with many civilizations to use, large amounts of units, and great naval battles. StarCraft: Just fun to play, all civilizations are completely unique and balanced.
Prince of Persia - Great game. I love it! Splinter Cell - Another great game that I'm in love with. I can't remember anything else now.
Populous 3: The Beginning and Nox - not times of mario but still quite old. Other than that Heroes of Might and Magic series
Diablo 1 and 2. Some of the most kick ass RPGs still. Warcraft. Not a Starcraft, but still, it's Blizzard-made and it's awesome. Counter-Strike. Pretty much one of the best shooters, if it wasn't for the damn hackers. WoW. If you're into MMOs, then this one's obvious. Company of Heroes. Wow. I have to say this is the best RTS of the century so far.
Counter Strike: it's a must get FPS online game! made by Steam/Valve (steam= they are part of valve while...valve= the company that made HL)
Counter-Strike? I guess for a game of it's time, it looks really good. Also some of the upcoming releases that I've tried and recommend are Crysis, Hellgate, and Unreal Tournament 3.
Hellgate? I think I've heard that name before, but I can't remember where.....as for the other two, I never heard of them, what are they about? strategy, first person shooter, ect?
Crysis and UT3 are FPSs. Crysis is from the company that made Far Cry, which was really good, and UT3 is part of a long line of games that goes back for five years or something. It's one of the classic games in the FPS world. Hellgate's an RPG from the people that made Diablo series.
great thread. Here is my list, in no particular order: Shadowrun (XBox 360/PC): Its like CounterStrike mixed in with magic. One of my favorite FPS games. StarCraft (PC): IMHO, the best game ever. TestDrive Unlimited (XBox 360/PC): my favorite MOOR (Massively Open Online Racing) game.
The Baulders gate series: Nice gameplay with a great story thrown in. Black and White : Really unique god game F.E.A.R : Freaky game with many japanese horror elements plus SlowMo (Think bullet time)
Deus Ex: Unreached Sci-Fi RPG-FPS hybrid, a true classic. Planescape: Torment A RPG for thouse that are bored with the same old clishes - on a darker turn, The Typing of the Dead: The only M-rated edutainment game. Type them into Pieces!
Live For Speed - the online racing simulator Truly a marvelous simulator. The development team consists of only 4 people and is aiming to occupy a dominant place in the niche market of realistic racing games. A comparison of racing simulators can be found here just to give you an idea about how good it is. And it's still in alpha... Licence cost is 24 GBP which includes the full content, every update for free and the online tracking and stats collecting system through lfsworld.net. I've had my licence since january of 2006 and had loads of fun. Unfortunately I don't have the time/mood to hop behind my wheel nowadays but it's certainly the best buy of all my games (along with SC)
