This feature is almost consider useless for square buildings, but what about those rectangular buildings (I.E bunkers). By implementing this feature, base building will be more uniform and spaces will be not wasted. Of course, rotation must still be restricted on grid lines
I swear ive seen this before.. maybe it was on the Battle.net forums or something did you search for it?
I'd say hotkey it, when you're laying it out do what the sim's did and press ctrl or shift or some other key and the building goes 4x3 instead of 3x4 and such. Oh, and be happy for squares, you DON'T want a game with octagons >.>
Man, octagonal grids must be REALLY annoying... What game had that SD-Count? I don't really think that rotating buildings is that critical, usually there's enough space for a base that you don't need to maximize the area that you're given. The only time that I could see it being useful is with Supply Depots, where you need to cut off a path that's oddly shaped, but even then it's not that great.
I also don't think that this is a critical item to consider for Starcraft II. That said, it'd be nice to have this feature, mainly because I get tired of seeing all of the buildings always pointing in the same direction.
I don't see a reason not to implant this, since it's a good convenience and if you're into it, makes for cooler looking bases. I think this'll help especially for terrans. In Starcraft they had the most problem with sprawling bases, and this could solve that.
It would be nice to have units come out of different sides (i.e. the entrance is moved), but just for rotating rectangular buildings it's pointless imo
if u dont thinks its such a good idea, y ? im curious to y not to implement it i wud think it'd be a simple and fun addition
Because I don't think it's that simple, and it's pretty much usless to implement it just to have your base look nicer. Than again, it could be usefull for custom maps, not sure in what way though
Because Starcraft (including 2) focuses on gameplay mechanics and balance. Having to "memorize" 4 aspects of every single building does not improve gameplay, on the contrary, it would create clutter. This won't be implemented for the same reason as we'll stick with the grid system for building placement. There are several games that allow you to place buildings without restrictions and Blizzard would not have problems implementing it, it's just that the grid system allows for easier tactics with buildings (like creating "paths" that enemy melee units must go through). Point is, rotating buildings - if you play at a competitive level - would just be redundant. And like most redundant things (like units with overlapping roles, etc.) are removed from Starcraft. What things qualify as redundant, however, is very much subjective (poor Shield Battery...)
i dont see any problem with it... i think that it would be good just so that you can use every inch of you base rather than hawve these gaps teh serve no use at all
while i understand some of you saying that it would just cause clutter. I don't see why this couldn't be implemented if you don't like it don't use it thou i can think of some cases especially if the Terran have the same sprawling bases that it would come in handy thou i am inclined to agree that most often you don't need this so i go back to it would be cool !
I do not think this will come in really handy. It would only delay me when building my base, causing me to loose precious time I would otherwise use for other things, like building an army. And I have another point on this one: the buildings are build in a way so that small (worker) units still could manouvre around them, you could already notice that in Starcraft 1. If you would be able to place them all tightly together, a base would be far less accecible.
