I've tried a few rushes but this only succeeds if you send the the units (like zergling) directly into the enemy base. If you need to search for the base first the rush always fails. So how do you know the location of the enemy base in the beginning of the game? Or is rushing just a gamble to pick the right location?
You scout. Send out a drone while ur spawning pool is being created. On most 1v1 maps its pretty obvious where they should be, same spot opposite of you. Unless your playing a 2v2 sized map, during 1v1 in which case there could be 3 possible locations for the enemy. Either way it shouldnt be to hard to find them with 1 worker unit making its way around the map
Moreover, if you send out two drones to scout then you'll not only learn where they are but you'll also have those 2 drones to help the zerglings.
But if you send out 2 drones then it'll take too much time to gather the resources for the pool and time is crucial when trying to rush I've tried against AI and it works on normal and hard difficulties, but on very hard or insane it's instant failure. On a large map it also fails since there is not enough time to find the enemy base and the time needed to reach the base. (or is there another way to rush on a large map?) On insane when the 6 zerglings reached the enemy base the AI already had 3 barracks and 15 SCV's
Why would you need those 2 drones for another pool? You already have one morphing when you send out your scouts.
You're right. You send out the drone when the pool is spawning, not immediately after game start. I'm sorry I'm just a beginner.
I am not a zerg player solar, but there is other strategies that can increase your rush abilities as well. I have seen and read here how some zerg players when approaching pop cap, start to build extractors with their drones then cancel them once they start building to replace the ones they used to start extractors. This effectively puts you at 12/10 supply or 11/10 depending if you did 1 or 2 extractors. The key is to build the extra drones quickly once you start the extractors so you can cancel the extractor before using to much money. I have seen a zerg player do this while his pool is still coming up and right as it pops they are already building an overlord. Once that goes they start the lings with a much better economy than the 6 pool rush. Its food for thought considering the 6pool rush is supposed to put you at an economic disadvantage.
I lost a ZvZ game today.. Usually I go for a 13 pool but vs zerg I have to scout and make sure I don't get 6 pooled.. Well today I saw a 6 pool was on the way so I started my pool with the 10th drone.. I came to late.. Got 6 lings and 6 drones in my base before my first lings were out.. This is very very hard to counter.. I managed to got it all killed when my lings were finished. Had to cancel my queen to make some drones again to start mining.. I lost a few minutes later to his next wave.. It felt there was nothing much to do against it as going for a 6 of 7 pool yourself..
