good ol' age of empires but yeh that would be sweet for SC II, the box formation would work well for terrans with siege tanks and thors in the middle surrounded by marines and what not why doesn't it have this already? add a whole new layer to play, using the right formation in the right battle/unit combination
Because you can do that yourself. The game already does a lot of things for you like automine, MBS, etc. we all know them, and this would just remove the need for positioning skills and groups. Even in AOE2 it looked nice but was crooked, especially when switching formations. Plus IIRC AOE2 ordered the units (like ranged inside the box, etc.)... what if the SC2 player wanted it another way? SC is all about clarity and control, so no formations thanks.
I don't think formations would be so handy in a micro-intensive game. Units need to be free to be used in the best way.
I think it would make things better tbh.... Instead of random a random mish-mash of units, you could easily select what you want. Then there's the whole splash damage thing. AoE II had a tight formation and a loose formation for going against onagers (they launched 8 stones in one throw).
i agree highly with fenix ive wanted to put my units in formations for years and always tried to but it just became a mixed boul of randomness i think the formation would add more order to the game and make things easier
I always loved Age of Empires... formations would definitely add a lot to SCII. It would add strategy to any game with splash damage really.
