I've created tiny pixel art versions of the SC2 racial Icons/Logos. I was hoping that they could be added to the list of smileys so people can plug them into their post if they wanted to. I've added a V also so people can do graphical versions of PvT or PZvTT when talking about match-up or reporting matches played (down the road). I had implemented racial smilies on my War3 guild's forum a long time ago.. and it was a very popular. So I thought I'd make some new ones for SC2.. now that the final Zerg icon has been revealed (check the starcraft2.com features page for a high rez version if you haven't yet). What do you guys think?
Re: SC2 Racial Icon Smilies. i think this is a great idea! =] maybe also make a upside down V, so u dont have to quote the person above you. instead you use that upside down V. =]
Re: SC2 Racial Icon Smilies. Just checking, but are you sure that's the right colour for the Zerg icon? I'm not sure how popular they'd be, but if they were popular for WarCraftIII, I guess it'll work. I mainly see them being used instead of saying 'Zerg.... Terran.... Protoss....' when making a statement about each team. I don't really see them being used for saying PvT, etc. I think people'd prefer just to use the acronym. I don't really see the point to the 'V' either. It's much easier to just type 'v', and there's little difference between the two. @ AcE_01. I don't see why you'd need an inverted 'V' to reply to the person above you. The next post usually refers to the one above anyway, which is why it doesn't need to be quoted in the first place. Also, there is already the '^' symbol which can be used for that. If all else fails, you can just say '@username'.
Re: SC2 Racial Icon Smilies. Yeah I know.. its a bit off. I had to up the saturation for it to read right on the forum's gray background. Well we did have a huge replay section on our forums and posts were kept short and brief, but you are right that's not the case here. They were also used after people's names to denote their race of choice. You get the idea. Ah but there is a difference.. what you don't see is that the graphic for the V is padded so that the V will be aesthetically centered (height wise) between the two icons (again if you were to use it to illustrate TvZ... which may not be needed much just yet).
Re: SC2 Racial Icon Smilies. I'm not positive, but I think that the Zerg icon might be green. There is every change it's been changed, and this is solely based on the old icon, but from what we know it's most likely going to be green. I'm not really sure what you mean about the 'V'. Unless it's a picture, it doesn't have to be aesthetically pleasing. The letter 'V' still works fine in the acronym. I don't see what it has to be padded and aligned between the icons.
Disclaimer :: These are pretty old now. The forum they were for had a hard lock on the dimensions of smileys. That's why they are small and void of any significant detail (they are 1/4 the size of my SC2 smilleys). I think i'd be hard pressed to do the zerg icon with less pixels. I'm only posting these so LT can see them. I don't expect SC2F.org to have any interest in these. WarCraft ] l [ has very elaborate crests for each race. That wasn't going to translate well to 15x15. So I ended up making the tier one unit heads instead. Human Footman, NE Archer, Orc grunt, Undead Ghoul (his hair is getting lost a bit on this forum's background.. but you get the idea).
30x30? What's the size of our smilies? Seems a bit big. Also, can you trim the edge of the protoss one to make it look cleaner? The glow doesn't come off that well. Anyways, GJ. I'd like to see this loaded into the smilie panel.
Haha, you weren't too far off with the colour of the Zerg symbol. You had a blood red, when it was more of an acid pink/purple. I'da guessed that it'd be green-ish like the old icon, so obviously your guess was better than mine. Good thing I wasn't the one making them. Nice work.
@Itza :: Green was a good call, but the only thing green in the old icon was the happy face behind the hydra skull (which looked like a snake skull). I figured it would likely be a bone colour like the skull of the old icon (it does look like a spine bony spine), or the brown'ish red that we used to see on most Zerg units in SC. I put my money on the Brown'ish red .. and figured they probably go more towards red (a good iconic primary colour). I can't say i'm a huge fan of the purple they picked though. I did add a row of darker pixels under it.. really gives it dimension now, and helps it stand out a bit more from the BG. Thats the only other change I did, aside from the colouration.
