Okay, well, since I spurred this thread... We have two cottages in Northern Michigan on Torch Lake. About half a mile south of Deep Water Pointe. So, anyway, my Mom's older cousin was goofing off on a pier in Southern Michigan during a storm and ended up drowning, despite being a really good swimmer. He loved the cottages and spent his summers up there fixing them up and always said how much he would like to live there permanently. About 4 years after his death, my Aunt and Uncle were working on the cottages and needed to repair some damage to pipes that was done by a fire (partly caused by my Mom's cousin, Steve). They were repairing it and noticed that the pipes had frost on them. There was a cold spot about 5 feet wide under the floor where it was about 40 degrees despite the temperature outside being around 75 (fahrenheit). Other incidents have occurred including a number of encounters by lone guests where someone is heard running up or down the stairs and out the door at the bottom. The door is often still closed and locked, but is heard being slammed anyway. Other times (I've witnessed two of these myself) someone is heard running UP the stairs and then out onto the balcony. Yet no one is there. On two other, very creepy occasions: 1) A dead bird was found in the upstairs bedroom, under the sheets, and still very fresh. This was in the spring after a hard winter. They were the first to be in the cottage since the previous fall. 2) Freshly cooked spaghetti noodles were found on one of the downstairs beds, also during the spring while opening the cottages up. We've also had a number of guests who rent the cottage stay there and ask about the freaky occurrences without being notified that they exist. We've heard of the furnace turning itself on (it has to be lit with a match), the fridge being turned off when its still plugged in somehow, the pillows on all of the couches being piled into one room... Very freaky stuff that no one has ever claimed responsibility for and spans across a number of peoples' experiences. We believe it's a friendly ghost that simply loves the cottage and may be a little upset over renovations and changes, but it's still a great story. It's pretty often that you feel like you're being watched. Ever had that feeling that you can tell when a person is watching you from the doorway, but you also KNOW WHO THEY ARE? ("Oh, hey Dad") Turn around, no one there? I get that all the time in that cottage... NOTICE: THIS IS A TRUE STORY! Of course, I can't corroborate most of it since I wasn't there, but I can tell you that the stairs thing and the cold spot is true. We believe it MIGHT be a creak in the floor since if you do it just right you can reproduce what sounds like someone going up the stairs, but it doesn't sound like when it... happens. And it doesn't explain the doors.
Wow, you just gave me a long paragraph that i just had to read. I got spooked about the running up and down the stairs part. Wait, i do have a small ghost story.
